Looking For Copy Cub Recommendations

Hey y'all,

Been a long-ass time since I've posted. So... hey.

Basically several businesses I've part of are growing crazy quickly (natch) and me trying to write all the copy myself is killing me.

So I'm looking for some cubs.

So... if you've trained any awesome writers recently...

Have a friend who's an awesome writer...

Or are an awesome writer yourself...

Let me know (you can either post in this thread - recommended to get some exposure - or PM me)

Candidates don't even need a ton of awesome controls...

Or even any controls...

But they do need to have a good grasp on writing sales copy and structuring good VSLs/sales letters.

They also need samples (because that's how I'll be judging their work).

I don't expect them to have a lot of marketing know-how - I'll be providing badass angles, ideas, and hooks... as well as a ton of info about the market and the pain points etc.

So basically they take all the hard-to-figure-out stuff and turn it into a sales letter, which is why they need to know how to write...

But being a badass marketer is optional.

The work will be emails, upsells, and VSLs.

Other important qualities...

*Taking direction and not having an ego. I know how I want things and while whoever is writing for me will be getting an awesome education, and I appreciate (highly!) new ideas and welcome discussion, ultimately it's my business, my rules.

*Keeping deadlines. Nothing worse than someone who hands in work late. I never do that whole "I need it tomorrow" crap but if people say a week I expect it in a week.

*Someone who strives to do their best work. Occasional mistakes (spelling/grammar errors, for example) are fine. Not being a killer copywriter (yet) is fine. Phoning it in is not. The second I have a cub that doesn't bust their ass they're gone.

*Loving to learn and improving. I love to teach and help but I also expect cubs to improve and work hard.

Given I'm looking to mould these cubs in my own image, greener writers are probably where it's at. If they charge more than $1,000 - $1,500 for a VSL script (actually charge, not just say they charge) they're probably more advanced than I need right now (though I may revisit this policy in a few months).

So... got any names to throw in the ring guys?

-Daniel

Heya, I have some online marketing experience (lead generation websites).

I'm new to copy writing but found it to be right up my ally, I've written a few articles for websites (lead generation sites, so they had to be a certain length, with some SEO in there).

I've been going through and doing the Gary Halbert suggested list:

The Gary Halbert Letter (I've read most of them, going back through and taking notes now).

I know I'm a good student and take direction well, I'd like to work with someone who has experience, gets results and wants results.

Copywriting isn't what I would consider "hard work" (I've done steel roofing in the summer...) but I feel like you're asking for consistency, reliability (done in a week means done in a week) and constant improvement (turning a cub into a lion).

If that interests you, shoot me a PM.

Sending Dan a copy won't impress him, you'll need something original.

        HAHAHAHA.

You sir, are a gentleman and a scholar.

There isn't enough props in the world for that statement.

        To everyone else...

DAMN... this blew up. I'm flattered so many of you would be willing to work for me (and there's some awesome talent, too.)

However, because of the insane amount of recommendations I'm getting via PM, I have some favors to ask...

        1) Please include examples of your work when you PM me. I don't care how you share it (though make sure you "share" it with me if it's in Google Drive or I can't see it) but I do need examples.

Doesn't matter if the piece made a lot of money or not, just has to show me you know how to write a sales letter and where your skills are at.

If you don't have ANY samples you and I will not be working together. Sorry!

        2) Please PM me with your name, email, phone #, Skype ID, and some samples. That makes it a lot easier to keep everything all together. Also let me know what kinda cashola you'd be looking for for emails, sales letters, upsell pages, etc, keeping in mind you'll probably get a steady amount of work and being mentored by a badass copywriter.

        3) Don't post in this thread and not PM me - there's a chance I'll miss it, and that's not good for either of us.

Anyone starting who works with Dan is gonna get better as a copywriter.

    Reach out to the fella.

Consistent work (if you're good) along with free critiques and lessons from a working pro.

Great deal for the right person.

And while I may not have Ross' charm, dry British wit, or sexy body...

    I do have hair.

    So there's that, too.

    To add to this...

Selling a WSO doesn't mean shit.

Anyone can sell a ton of WSOs with crap copy. It's a market that's ready to buy any BS you feed them.

Not exactly what we call a balanced test.

Now, that doesn't mean WSO samples are bad. In fact I've seen some great ones from candidates.

But telling me you got 10% conversion on a WSO doesn't mean anything... so please don't act like it makes you the next up-and-coming reincarnation of Halbert, Parris, Clayton, Jack Forde, and so on.

And yes, I'm aware most of those people are still alive. Just making a point

Who is the sorry soul who told you he gets 10% conversions on WSOs? And acts like he's an A-level copywriter???

      Burn 'em at the stake!

      LOL

I did. And this is an excerpt of what was written:

I am not a badass marketer. Nor do I have an ego. But I am very professional about deadlines and my work. I love learning and I know that learning comes through doing.

My portfolio of copy work is small but hopefully it will give you an idea of what I can offer.

        My first (and only) WSO:
        <<removed>>

72 sales with 10% conversion. Much higher conversions with affiliates who had email lists related to publishing books.

This is an OTO page for a product coming out in the next week:
        <<removed>>

Here is a video I did at the end of September (I wrote the presentation and it is me talking)
        <<removed>>

These are some examples. I have a number of good headline/subject swipes that I look at. I've copied out by hand letters from Gary Halbert, Sean D'souza, and many of the 'classics' in direct mail. I've read Claude Hopkins, Caples, Ogilvy, Bly and many others.

What I know on VSL's so far is from a 3 part series Clayton Makepeace did a while back. And I have backed out the process that Ryan Deiss seems to use in a lot of his VSL's.

Then of course, I browse the copywriting section of WF quite a bit. It is the biggest war chest of copy information available as far as I can tell.
I didn't think that mentioning the conversion rate in this context could come off as claiming to be anyone like Forde or Halbert or any other superstar.

But I was wrong. Sounds like we're not a match.

Best of luck with your project.

    Actually dude it wasn't you!

Yes, you told me about your conversion rate (and maybe that's where I pulled the 10% from? When you get 30 applications in 24 hours, remembering specific numbers is hard for me)

But you weren't a dick about it.

A couple of people were very arrogant about their WSO results and seemed to think that meant they were instantly better than all the other applicants I had.

So, 2 things can be learned here...

    1) Try not to leap to conclusions...

    2) Even if it WAS you, you would have been better shutting up unless I mentioned you by name (which would have been a dick move on my part).

And because I don't understand (and probably never will) Alex's sense of humor...

Telling me about results you get = awesome.

Implying your xx% WSO result holds up in the real world of cold traffic = dumb.

Hopefully this clears up any misunderstanding.
