You overwork yourself, your work slowly becomes subpar as time goes by because you'll soon be missing details that make the big picture. It's always better to have a good rest everyday. And death by sugar? Ack. I stay away from all types of energy drinks.

Too bad, but that goes to show people who think they can "Make thousands " Online without putting in any work "Push button Riches".

The internet life style is real but misrepresented. People who make money either invest money and outsource the work or they actually put in the work.
So if you want to provide services on the internet, and you really want to make it, then you should put in the work. However, remember to have a schedule that incorporates some rest and personal compensation

          To summarize for you
          1. One needs to work hard.
          2. But one also needs to have some rest, even in-between busy schedules

Also from the article and what you have quoted above one can infer that:

-Too much work could have caused the heart problems
-The drink could also have contributed.

What ever the case, condolences to the family.

The copywriter who died was an ad agency copywriter... you know, one of the types who have to go to work in a "Mad Men" office every day, with a boss, meetings, etc. She wrote regular ads, like you see big companies running all the time.

Very different lifestyle than IM and direct response.

Not to say nobody pulls 30 hour days here, but ad agencies can be insanely stressful.

Sounds like she O.D.ed on Red Bull. She was drinking Krating Daeng for 3 days -
Krating Daeng (Thai: กระทิงแดง, Thai pronunciation: [kràtʰiŋ dɛːŋ]) is a sweetened, non-carbonated energy drink developed by Chaleo Yoovidhya. The drink is mostly sold in Southeast Asia but can be found in Austria, Sweden, Denmark, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, and the United States where it is sometimes renamed "Thai Red Bull". Mr. Chaleo took the name from the gaur a large wild bovine of Southeast Asia.

Krating Daeng became the basis for the creation of the best selling energy drink in the world, Red Bull. When he died in 2012 at age 89, Mr. Chaleo was a multi-billionaire.

Krating Daeng was first introduced in Thailand in 1976. It contains water, cane sugar, caffeine, taurine, inositol and B-vitamins. Krating Daeng sales soared across Asia in the 1980s, especially among truck drivers, construction workers and farmers. IBers and truck drivers used to drink it to stay awake. The working class image was boosted by sponsorship of Thai boxing matches, where the logo of two red bulls charging each other was often on display. The bulls pictured are wild gaurs, not cattle.

The Thai product was transformed into a global brand by Dietrich Mateschitz, an Austrian entrepreneur. Mateschitz was the international marketing director for Blendax, a German toothpaste company, when he visited Thailand in 1982 and discovered that Krating Daeng helped to cure his jet lag. He cooperated with Chaleo's T.C Pharmaceuticals to adapt the formula and composition to "Western tastes". Then, he launched Red Bull in 1987.

I do not think you can attribute this solely to the 30 hours of straight work. I could be wrong.

But there was probably some underlying ailments with this young lady. A congenital heart problem ? Which could have been exacerbated by the Caffeine in the excessive consumption of Red Bull ?

      Who knows.

      Nonetheless , really sad !!

This is not Hard Work. This is self-destructive one-sidedness. A tyrant has an energy problem too, and they get spun out unless they have staff. Then a whole bunch of people go down with a flaming ball of obsession. There is only one reason to stay up 30 hours and press past human endurance: Stubbornness. It's a conceit that follows the same logic as someone who exceeds their meds, "One was great! How much better with two, or even three!"

The great sages of all authentic pro-human being belief systems all talk about the Breathing In and the Breathing Out. The author whose night is lit by the writing candle sleeps until 2PM must value his own source of energy, and thus promote the flow of his productive mental faculty.

Believing their code would become outdated and entirely re-written by year 2000, (another one-sided delusion resulting in a lack of valuation for either code or human energy) guys breaking their health back in the late 1980's were coding the Y2K systems in short-sighted, two-digit fields for the year. But they stayed up all night and for weeks slept under their desks!

Conceit. A famous religious text complains about "Vanities, vanities, vanities!" Here too, a stubborn conceit pushes the one-sided over their self-created edge, and vaporizes their life. The mind as a neighborhood is a bad place to live, eat and possibly sleep. It's the worst place to find good copy or code.

Although we don't know the full story (real cause and effect) it is still a reminder
that writers have to live balanced lives. I once did 10 sales letters in a short
period of time and did get really sick afterwards. I learned my lesson then.

You know what they say: Writing is easy. Just sit at you computer, cut your
    wrist and give blood.

The combination of excessive sitting (blood pooling in the legs) and copious amounts of Red Bull-type stuff did it.

    That... and stress.

When I did massage/bodywork, I never had any health-related work problems.

    As a copywriter...

It has definitely taken its toll.

This might sound like weird advice, but just get REALLY good...

Sad to hear about this. I don't think I could function without a good night sleep. The company must put a lot of pressure on their employees and work them to death. My writing would suck badly if I had to work that long.

If you are old enough to have a career - you are old enough to control your food intake - and energy drink intake - and know to get some exercise while working long hours. You are old enough to know when you have to get some rest.

She would have been better off taking short breaks for a quick nap - instead of using breaks to tweet about work....

I expect she had underlying health issues - but she also had an unhealthy lifestyle.

Most of us can also control our alcohol intake, and yet our employers can, should, and usually do ban booze in the office. What this woman eats and drinks at home, of course, is none of their business.

More to the point, she should have been sent home after a certain number of hours. Several people already pointed out how quickly productivity drops off past that time.

People should have self control, but unfortunately that's not always the case. Seems pretty self-evident that you need breaks and rest, but it took a lot of burned-out workaholics to learn the lessons we now take for granted.

The employer can be in trouble for letting something like this happen. Some countries have laws that demand work time tracking and reporting to protect the employees, and take action in case there's something abnormal. Of course it's also in the employers interest to react to something like this, and send the staff home to rest, or the work quality goes down the drain.
