Do I Need a Copywriter or an Editor?
My problem is our Mission Statement. I have written it, but after numerous readings of it, it appears that I may be too emotionally involved with the subject matter and not presenting the details in a way that will have the proper impact on the average reader.
Some people have commented that this is a good thing as much of the message comes straight from the heart. Others have commented that it seems too much like a personal plea which dilutes the overall message.
I'm totally stumped on this one. I don't know if I should turn the entire writing project over to a copywriter well-versed in the subject matter or just turn my finished copy over to an experienced editor for polishing.
I don't even know if I could find a copywriter with any background in the subject matter which includes the challenges of disabled veterans to find gainful employment, how that is a partial cause of 22 veterans committing suicide every day and what our project does to attempt to create income opportunity for disabled vets to supplement their disability checks. At some level shouldn't a Mission Statement come directly from the heart?
These are complex issues that we are attempting to address and I fully realize that effective, concise copy is of paramount importance in helping people quickly grasp our concept and reason for launching our directory. As you can clearly see I'm a bit verbose and brevity is not my forte, especially when I get totally worked-up about the subject.
Time is of the essence. I need to get this worked-out and acted on. Your thoughts would be most appreciated and I'm sure would help me reach an informed decision on the best way to approach this dilemma.
Thanks in advance for any possible guidance.
Cheers. - Frank
