I need tips on how to create copywriting portfolio

Hello People,

I've been active on a freelance/micro job site since April of 2013. I have performed well over 400 gigs writing 30 sec - 3 minute radio, tv, whiteboard, explainer and animation scripts and two e books. I've also wrote a few articles, product reviews, website content, research, seo articles and handled light business admin work for people.

I'm setting things up now where I can cancel the music promo services on my website and turn the main focus of the site/business in to a copywriting service site which will offer all of my skills mentioned and more through outsourcing. (side note: for those that want to know why I'm killing the music promo service, it is because the music biz is over saturated now and radio airplay is less realistic these days which equals extremely unstable income for the little guy)

My main question today is what is the best way to create my portfolio for when I start making cold calls and emailing potential clients? Should I include my resume that shows my work history dating back to 1999 along with my work samples? How many samples of my writing should I show them?

Any help will be appreciated..

Thanks

First thing you need to do is spend an hour and learn how to use this forum, especially how to respond to several posts in ONE post, it is pretty easy. It shows respect for our time.

You already have the products and skills to make your monthly goals. Spend another half hour and peruse the forum looking for the thousands of people who would love to know how to make the 200 to 400 bux a month you are currently making. Probably a hundred thousand wannabe writers who have spent money and haven't made a dime.

You have several thousand potential buyers right here.
You have performed over 400 gigs, and don't you think other people would want to know your "secrets" for getting those gigs? Or how to write a script that sells? I can think of at least 4 or 5 possible products which you could easily create in a matter of days.

But you need to have a plan to reach your goal.

So, consider a short report on getting writing gigs, offer for 1 buck on a one page capture page, deliver report with an offer for a 10 buck report on how to write an effective script. Maybe with an upsell.

The object for these low cost (time and money) projects is to develop a list of people interested in doing what you do Sure, you don't have the success of a guru but, you're doing better than thousands of warriors and other writers who haven't got a clue on how to make even a little bit of money.

Now this is the typical "funnel" approach which has worked for many successful writers.

The use of autoresponders and an automation process and creating a low maintenance and low support site/business is well documented as the best way to conquer the Internet for someone seeking an IM lifestyle business.

Now this typical funnel to build a LIST is only one way but, having your own products to sell and continue to set up automated systems with minimal support has withstood the test of time, both online and off.

As for your portfolio, use what you have done, but I suggest you spend the next few months building cred and getting known and USING what you already have, and leverage your small successes into bigger and bigger ones.

What you want to do, there are thousands willing to pay you once you have it figured out, which shouldn't take you very long with all the great help you are receiving here.
