Some List Building Advice, Please!

Hi All,

First, my site: www.ultimatecardiostrength.com I welcome any feedback. and constructive feedback, but please don't be nasty or "brutal". I'm looking for advice and encouragement, not to be beat down!

I am new to IM after recently completing a "guru's" IM program. He is very successful and his program makes sense and the concepts are simple, just not easy. It has been frustrating to say the least. My determination is what's kept me going and I've been putting in several hours each day for a few weeks. I need advice on getting traffic to build my list.

He talked about starting with free traffic sources; forums, craigslist, etc. I've been kicked off two forums and been cursed by people on CL. Most forums won't let me put a link in my signature going to my site.

I'm thinking about spending a little for solo ads, but don't know where to start, and I don't want to throw money down the drain. It seems like a catch-22.

I have my squeeze page set up with a great free e-book. Perhaps one problem is the first redirect is to an affiliate offer. I have been trying to find a simple offer like a calorie calculator that is a free download and won't scare away subscribers. I could still make a buck or so from it. I have my autoresponder set up with at least a week's worth of messages with great content.

Any Advice would be appreciated!

    Looks good.

Just make sure that your whole campaign (Back End) email campaign continues
to flow around those bullet points you mention on the page.

Remember that those people will be opting into your list to receive 1 or all of those
tips and tricks so you need to fill that need when you try to sell something to them
    further down the line.

Continue to get more leads. The fact that you redirect to an affiliate page doesn't mean much... you can still get sales, but not as much sales as you would if you had a good marketing funnel after folks subscribe.

Nice page.... consider Adwords and Bing Ads.

    wwidman,

You should be able to get your answers from the guru that you have employed (paid for his program) because the questions you're asking are really about the very basics of Internet marketing. Hold his feet to the fire, explain what you've tried and the fact that it's not working. You should be able to get some personal help if what the guru taught you has been given a fair test and it's not working.

From a non-specific standpoint (because I don't know your business or available resources), I believe that most new online marketers are too stressed over building a huge list so they try "shotgun" approaches that blast their list building offer as wide as possible.

My suggestion is to adopt the mindset of starting your business one subscriber at a time - one today, one tomorrow, one the next day. Some days you'll get none - other days you'll get two.

Develop a profile of your perfect customer (the person who's needs and wants align perfectly with what you're offering) then look for individuals that express the want for exactly what you can give them. Laser-focus your efforts on singular people instead of places (like Craig's List) where you broadcast your offers to all the untargeted masses.

This effort will give you a small but very focused and highly targeted list and, as you build over time, your efforts will pick up momentum and traction and soon you will have a very nice list of those who really want to hear from you and will buy what you offer.

I hope you have all the success you desire,

    Steve

      Hi All,

Thanks for the feedback so far. You make some great points.

Randall talked about the sales funnel after people subscribe. I've learned a little about it but appreciate any advice.

I am I correct in this.....my follow-up messages in my autoresponder have great content sent out daily or every other day. Woven in there are some content messages with links to things I'm suggesting. Is this a sales funnel?

Make sure that you really study forum rules.

You have a link in your post to you site. This is could get you into trouble here as well.

You will find everything that you need here on the forums.

By the way solo ads are good but make sure you pick somebody with a huge list related to your niche.

    Hi,
Overall I like your landing page. I do have a couple of suggestions (don't worry - this is not a beat down!)
The picture could be a bit bigger. It is OK, but not a super eye catching image.
Also - without getting too wordy (too much text on a squeeze page tends to get ignored or in the way), you may want to add testimonials or creditials to provide addition credibility to your offer. I mention this becasue the fitness niche, which I am in as well, is very crowded with lots of competition.

      Hi wwidman,

You have some catchy lines on your squeeze page. At first I found it quite hard to read - there are lots of difference colors and font sizes I found difficult to take in at first glance. You could try trimming it a little and increase the size of the headline font and the bullets. Maybe try reducing the variety of colors and see how it looks. Just an idea for the heading:

FREE ebook reveals the secret to TOTAL body fitness in 90 days! or
REVEALED! The Secret to TOTAL body fitness in just 90 days or
Discover How You Can Achieve TOTAL Body Fitness In Just 90 days!

It's difficult to say exactly what you should have on your squeeze page. All you can do in reality is put it out there and test it - you can use Google analytics free. It takes time but it's worth it in the long run. If you do make a change, just change one thing and the re-test.

      Hope that helps

        Hi All,

Thanks again for the feedback. Comments included maybe too many colors in the text on my landing page and the picture could be bigger. I was actually thinking along the same lines. I'll incorporate some changes. I guess what I really wanted to if there was a generally positive effect when you first visit it, or a generally negative effect. It appears that it's generally positive.

This is my first campaign and I know it's not perfect, but I think I'm on the right path!

If you are scared to lose money then you are probably not serious about success. Sometimes to get started on the right foot, you need to spend some money to test what advertising techniques work for you and which ones don't.

A lot of people are not willing to spend any money for advertising and this one of the main reasons why they fail.

If you need to test an ad and lose $50, that's fine. You are testing things out. As long as you keep testing and testing, you will find somethings that do work.

Driving traffic isn't as hard as most people make it out to be.

My students enjoy quality avenues of free traffic generation. You are utilizing one right now, Youtube is another, and FB still another. Those three are your most frequented and heavily targeted areas to attack.

If there is any detailed information on any of the above listed methods please don't hesitate

Before you spend any money on advertising just make sure your funnel is set up and monetized effectively if not you may be wasting your time driving a ton of traffic to your landing page. There are two ways you can build your email list. One, you can build it with paid traffic this includes but not limited to : Solo Ads, Banners, PPC, etc. Another way to do build your list will take time but is also free which include methods like YouTube, Article Marketing, Forums to name a few. With paid traffic you must learn how to create winning campaigns in order to scale otherwise you can burnout quickly and run out of money. With free traffic methods you must always be consistent in your marketing. There are many variables but those are my tips.

You should set up your auto responder with information that will help the people that join your list plus some well placed solo ads that would be of interest to them. At least 2 months worth .after
Then find a good PLR product or write one yourself filled with information that will answer questions or be of value to your subscribers.

Always direct traffic to your squeeze page first to build your list.
as for the body calculator you can find one on OfferValut.com they
will even pay you for directing your traffic to them.

So direct your traffic to your squeeze page then to the body calculator and you will make some money before they even start going thru your sales funnel

I love your landing page also but the optin is sort of taken over by the main text. The optin didn't jut out to me and its probably due to size. Increase it by 20 percent or better yet set up a split campaign with one bigger optin and that one and see which one does better.

To answer your original question. If you buy solos you will have to find a really trustworthy seller who actually has a list in your niche. Only a very few out there will and you will pay a premium price for it.

If you want to spend your money more wisely. Look for blogs in your specific niche and ask them if they will mail out your offer for a fair price to there subscribers.

Most will tell you no but I have had some say yes.

This guru you talk about. Why is he still not helping you.

I want to make a point here. Most launchers don't help people unless money is involved, Next time you go to the wso section, just look at the post count of the top sellers. Most will be under a 100 or not very much over it.

Only a select few people with experience will help you. So if you hire again, look at what they help with for free and how many times they help in the forums.

Craigslist is that way. You get beat down. Just a fact for marketers is all. And forums are tricky. If you stay with a forum learn and then give back alot you can get by with alot more. If you just join a forum and want to post a link you haven't contributed nothing and they don't care who you are.

If your going to spam your link it would be better to buy scrapebox or pay somone on fiverr to spam it for you. This could get your site penalized by google also. Not saying you shouldn't do that but I think overall your best thing would be to go to the classified section and the wso section, look for backlinks from someone who has been selling for a while read there reviews and pay between 25 and a 100 for someone to build your traffic for you.

What is your ultimate aim with this... are you happy to make a few sales here and there or do you want to earn a full-time income?

I can give you my feedback after signing up to your list, but it really depends on what you're wanting to accomplish.
