Content Strategies & Copywriting?

That's what this forum is now?

This may mark the beginning of the end for the Warrior Forum.

Possibly a rash decision on their part.

If content/article writers start posting threads here you lot will get fed up and abandon ship.

    Which would be a pity.

    Dan

PS: Either I am going blind or something has happened to the font colour for threads. Seems lighter to me. Sickly pale in fact.

PPS: I can't even seem to log out.

You are right about the color - pale and sickly.

The Copywriting Forum is the only place on here that I visit daily, and learn something from.

The problem lies in a disconnect between the new owners and the users.

Check out the "Warrior News" section where they tried to entice people to submit great content with the title of "Champion"... an attempt to artificially create lively forums.

They made no effort to ask long-standing members of the WF community beforehand, but did take a step back once they were told that it was a bad idea.

I really don't want content writers and copywriters to get mushed together. It's a move which suggests they've taken no time to understand the forum or it's members.

I mean... there's a ton of "content writer" questions posted in here which get shut down almost as quick as they get started... would it have been that hard to realise this isn't the best of ideas?

Yeah... completely DUMB idea. "Content Strategies" - what the hell is that? Pretty obvious these guys think "content" and "copywriting" are the same. Perhaps they really do want to alienate the real copywriters amongst us.

Line up boys. We've just been railroaded.

They must know what copywriting is judging by the new benefit-laden call to action at the top-right of the forum

      A really, really bad idea.

It's already bad enough having to explain time and time again that article writing is not copywriting.

If you explicitly invite people to this section to discuss content writing, one of two things will happen:

1)Most of the copywriting regulars will leave and there will be no discussions of copywriting anymore. It will become, in effect, a section for article writers and bloggers.

2)Copywriters and content writers will be in a constant tangle and both will be frustrated.

Jeesh. The copywriting forum was pretty much the ONLY lively forum on the whole internet dedicated to copywriting. Really bad move to mush it together with content writing. They had something good going, and they're blowing it.

Not to mention Google results still point to the old copywriting forum. People who know the old copywriting forum will fish around to find this one, but casual searchers will just click away from "Invalid Forum specified" landings. Bad for Warrior forum SEO.

Not surprised though. Freelancer.com makes its money on penny-a-word content writers. Someone simply did not know the vast difference between copywriting and content writing.

A poorly conceived and rashly implemented decision if the "content strategy" for this section involves having professional copywriters spend time contributing copy advice/discussion here.

A more sensible and useful alternative would be a dedicated sub-forum underneath this one for Content Writing.

        No.

In all fairness, I don't think it's reasonable for the new owners/team to be expected to committee every change they want to make...

HOWEVER, this is a fundamental alteration of the purpose and complexion of this subforum.

A temperature-taking thread here would have been a better move, IMO.

Most, if not all of the writers on Freelancer are 'content' folks, so they are simply trying to do a merger, which will never work by the way.

In all fairness, real marketers generally do some research before developing a product. And not checking with the Mods like you who help keep this place running is... well... insane.

          Content Strategies?????

          What were they thinking!!!

One of the reasons... well okay the only one... I check this forum daily is the incredible caliber of the people here.

If this was a "well thought out" strategy on the part of the new owners, I'd really hate to see what their punting looks like.

I like @BrianMcLeod idea. There are a lot of content writers that don't understand copy writing. I started out learning copy writing over a decade ago, before I jump into Internet Marketing and blogging. I love to write content but my copy writing skills bleed into everything that I write.

However, I would give content writers their own forum where they can discuss strategy and how to write non-fiction. Then if they need copy help they can come here.

    That's my two cents

P.S. I knew something was going on with the forum 3 months ago. Now I know. I feel like an orphan.

    Is Alen still involved?

The new caesars have decided that people like to watch cats and dogs going at it. Vox populi baby.

I have a feeling they don't fully understand what they just did. So hopefully they will be open to undoing it.

  • Until they go back to the original name.

Here's what us here copywriters should do.

When you start a thread put a c at the end of it.

    We'll know what you mean.

Honestly, if the quality of content marketing topics and threads are good, I'm happy.

It's the "Is 2 cents a word for copy a good price?" questions I find repelling. Previously, because they were so few, I would just ignore. But if I have to wade through too many of those, it'll be a buzzkill.

That's a positive way to look at it.

I think I'll take the high road with you on that one.

But, I have to say, this looks like one of those common situations where a big company buys a smaller one, assumes that they know what's best for the customers, and starts making drastic changes to the very things which made the customers keep coming back in the first place.

I wonder if the person who decided to "reposition" this forum even knows the difference between copywriting and content marketing. There are already enough people out there who don't know the difference between the two. Hopefully this is an opportunity to attract more people to this forum and help them learn the difference.

        They don't know the difference.

        Results don't lie.

Are you and Rick right? Can this possibly be a blessing in disguise to "educate" more people about copywriting?

        Maybe.

But I usually stay away from educating people. It's FAR away from the path of least resistance.

I appreciate the positive spin to balance out the conversation.

Maybe they should have phrased it:
