Hybrid VSL Script Length

Hello Warriors,

I'm having a tough time trying to decide how long I'd like my hybrid VSL script to be. I've used long format text letters with other niches in the past with success but with my current project being in the music/DJ niche, I've decided to use a hybrid VSL format. I'll be modelling the layout similar to Facesniper - Easy Facebook Targeting Tool

My question to you guys is how short or long would you keep the VSL itself? My initial thoughts were to keep it around the 5 minute mark. Not so long where I bore the readers yet not too short where I can't get enough information across to sell the service.

Any input would be appreciated

    Doesn't matter to your target audience, as long as if you do go long, you keep their attention. A buddy of mine has a control at Agora that's nearly an hour and a half long. I don't know that market very well so this is subjective, but I would test a few versions. Generally it's been my experience that the more you tell the more you sell... On the other hand I've had some so short that basically just say in a nutshell "here's what I got, buy now"... That's why testing is imperative.

    First things first: your viewers will only get bored if your video is boring.

    Period.

    There's a reason people are making millions with 50-minute VSLs and 3-hour webinars right now: it's because they work, and because the people who do stick around to watch REALLY want what your selling.

    Don't be one of the many knuckleheads who blindly make assumptions about how people value their time or how long they'll stick around to watch a sales presentation because you'll be leaving a lot of money on the table if you do.

    Keep in mind I'm not saying you need a long VSL to sell your product, I'm just saying don't rule it out; it might make you a lot of money.

    Second: You HAVE TO test to get the answer to your question in this thread. It's a must. Don't arbitrarily decide now that your video is going to be exactly this long, your sales page exactly this long, etc. Look at what others who are successful in the same market are doing and come up with a control that can compete... then, test. Not just headlines, bullet points, and the usual suspects, but the copy itself, the length of copy, formatting, etc.

    I know it's not sexy but it is what all the really successful guys and gals do.

    Third: Speaking of testing, don't decide on a Hybrid VSL now... maybe do that to begin with and use it as a control to test against a pure VSL or a straight sales letter, etc.

    Thanks for the insight guys! Another quick question for the VSL. In the DJ niche, which video style would you initially test: powerpoint, whiteboard, explainer, on-camera?

      In Ryan Deiss' VSL training, he recommends 12-24 minute VSLs.

      As others have stated, every market is different. Testing is important.

      But based on Deiss' testing, he's found 12-24 minutes to be the sweet spot.

      DJ niche.. well, my instinct would be to go with an on-camera one, but these guys aren't exactly technophobes either, so do test explainers as well. Just keep the pace and read your script out loud a LOT before you even consider production.
