Looking for pointers on my Survey page.

Hi Everyone,
I'm pretty new to all this, and I'm trying to work with my first survey ever to do market research on my book on psychic development.

Could someone please take a look at this and offer some suggestions?

(Gak! Not enough posts to include a link. Sorry Please visit website: "www(dot)AllThingsPsychic(dot)Preview.Html"

I'm just not getting many takers submitting the survey. Is it too much like a sales page? I tried to craft the text to give adwords something to chew on for my keywords.

I also tried to cheat and combine the survey with a lead generation system and a screening method for product testers/potential testimonials... does that make if feel seedy?

I think something must be wrong, because I would have thought that the people that made it to this page would have to be crazy to not want to try my product for free. There is nothing else even close to what I am offering on the market.

Your suggestions would be very appreciated!

Thanks in advance!!

Beyond the black background hurting your site I really don't have a clue about this niche...

Do people really believe they can teleport? I'm not making fun, I'm serious.

A long survey like that is naturally going to have a lower conversion rate than say an opt-in form.

Your traffic could be another issue... Are you targeting people who've already shown an interest in this stuff?

I was able to follow your new link. The site and subject are interesting to say the least. Reading your questions, they seem more appropriate to someone AFTER reading the book not before.
My second comment is that you should have more room to write the answers, specially in the open questions.
To be able to evaluate your results, try to ask few questions on the respondent.
Work a bit on making this offer more tempting, so people will have the patience to finish the relatively long survey.
      Good Luck.

        Hi Scott,

Thanks for your comments. So black is not a good color for this sort of thing? I thought it might be more mysterious but being new to the marketing side of things, I have not yet tried those kinds of variations.

I wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something obvious before I started tweeking. Also, I hadn't considered the long survey vs. short survey thing. Maybe I'll trim it down a little and see if that helps.

And now: thank you for your question! These are exactly the kinds of things I will need to address in my sales copy when I get to that.

The honest answer to your question, is in the west, "No". Most people do not believe they can teleport, but that's very different most people believing that "tangible psychic phemonena" do not exist.

According to various polls and surveys, and depending on which one you believe somewhere between 60-90% of people believe that psychic powers exist, and somewhere upwords of 40% believe they have actually experienced one.

According to the Washington post article here:
Most Americans Believe in Higher Power, Poll Finds - washingtonpost.com

A whopping 80% of Americans believe in Miracles.

So the thing is, while most folks don't believe THEY can do anything like Teleporting, at some level they don't believe it to be impossible.

My course is about advanced spiritual development (for dummies!)... which in a very real way is about how to connect yourself to a greater power. Call it the "cosmic energy" if you are new age, call it "God" if you are religious, the name doesn't matter.

If most people believe in miracles, is it such a stretch to think that God could work a miracle through you, if you let him know you were interested by preparing yourself appropriately?

I doubt most people will ever take the information I give them far enough to gain conscious control of these kinds of abilities, just like most people who buy a book about body building will not take it far enough to enter competitions. Most people don't have that kind of discipline.

I do believe most people will be fascinated enough with the book that they will not want to return it, and that the folks that give it an honest try (even if they don't really expect anything!) will experience *something* sooner or later that will honestly rock their world... just like it did for me when I had my first experiences.

        Thanks for your reply Scott!

Thanks for your reply, danyray, but could you be a little more specific on how to make the offer more tempting?

I'm probably far to close to this, but I would have thought that people interested enough to end up at the page would be curious enough to answer a handful of questions to see this info first hand and for free.

I'm kind of in a catch 22 with asking my questions... I need these answers in order to figure out how best to approach my target audience but I'm botching my approach because I don't know the answers to the questions!

I will shorten the form though... I think that was good advice and I think I've gotten enough info on some of the questions already.

    Thanks for your interest/reply!

I love the black background. Love the header graphics. I am sort of "into" this type of thing, and your color choices are great, except for the blue survey box. Try gray maybe?

I would certainly condense your main content. Make it shorter, and more concise.

    Overall, it's attractive.

Unlike Kennedyhouse the layout and colours are a turnoff for me.
Why not split test your white on black against black on white?

      Additional Comments:

1- "Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence" (C. Sagan?)

I read the copy and from a copywriter's perspective you've certainly got an "incredible offer" - indeed if you or any of your students can "deliver the goods", you'll be whisked onto Larry King / Oprah in no time and we'll be reading about you in the New York Times.

The problem is with credibility and believability... so I think you need more than testimonials from students who "feel things tingling inside"...

You might get a better response rate by using a squeeze page with a 1 minute video of you demonstrating just one of these abilities...and get visitors to opt in for (say) another video or part of the course by completing some of the form below. (You can test out including all or some of these requirements... a longer form might filter out more of the tire kickers and drive by visitors.)

      2- Headline:
The headline and and sub-head look like something an "inner core mastermind" customer might buy into.
For the entry level "psychic" folks why not hit their mystery pleasure buttons with something like:

"Imagine the surprise on James Randi's Face When You Appear Out Of Thin Air In His Living Room To Claim The $1 Million Prize...Guaranteed."
      or
"Paris On Monday, New York On Wednesday, Sydney For The Weekend...No Jet Lag, No Visa and No Airport Delays"

      3- Disclaimer
You might want to add something to the site which covers your a$$ for what people do with the material you give them. For example, if people start practicing while they're driving or some other risky activity.

      Good luck.

Thanks for the kind words, kennedyhouse! I've shortened my copy, my survey and changed my survey background color.

Oh, and if this really is your cup of tea... why not sign up!

My amazing psychic powers tell me that if you do, you would make the cut and be one of my 10 testers!

        Thanks Mark,

All excellent points and I will try split testing other colors in the near future.

To your other points: Credibility is absolutely going to be an issue with my ad copy for the masses. I'm sure a 1 minute video would do wonders for my conversion, but the simple truth is that in the last 10 years, I've had 9 extraordinary events and only the very first one happened "on demand".

While I know exactly what to do and how to do it, my first experience was so dramatic (a failed teleport that resulted in a bilocation) that it scared the heck out of me.

Now when I *deliberately* get close to a psychic event, I have developed a combined fear/excitement response that shuts me down (just like what happened with my reviewer, except with him, no fear since I warned him what to expect)

Where I am now is that the dramatic events are completely spontaneous and almost a pleasant surprise that I notice after the fact. (things like seeing your keys still in the ignition of your locked car, and then turning around and hearing them clang to the ground beside your feet)

The odds of capturing one on camera are practically nil and the harder you try the less likely it is to occur. (This is exactly why these abilties are so hard to replicate in a lab)

While I know of people more advanced than myself who probably could produce these effects for film, they have absolutely no interest in convincing anyone that these abilities exist and would never use their abilities in that manner, even for me.

So... my offer has to be of the "try it for yourself and see" nature.

This may doom the marketing effort, or hopefully I can sucessfully narrow my efforts so that only the people who are already looking for this information will find it.

Your headlines are great, but in light of all I've said, probably not quite the way I'll go. I thank you for the suggestions though!

As to your item 3, I've got disclaimers all over the actual book and additional strongly worded warnings in the appropriate sections. You are correct that the exercises could be extremely dangerous in any situation where a lapse in attention could result in an accident like with driving.
