Are the examples on that page actually written by Kennedy or just Kennedy-style? I don't see any direct indication on the page.

They do work, that's for true.

But, you're right... not everyone is going to like them, and some may be offended. The ones who get offended, great! Means we're doing something right. haha

It might be my Britishness Don't know why you would want to rattle a potential client though

At one point I donated regularly to various causes...The Nature Conservancy, National Park Trust, public radio, my alumni association, etc...

During that time I received loads of direct mail fundraising pitches and calls. I was annoyed, but continued to donate.

After some time I became so annoyed I called each of these organizations and demanded to be removed from their lists.

When I did this I believed I would continue to donate if they would only stop bugging me all the time. I believe in those causes and planned to continue regular donations.

However, once the mail and calls stopped coming I simply forgot about the causes and stopped donating. I continue to donate to public radio because I listen to public radio and I can't escape hearing the periodic fund drives.

The point is...when they were bugging me they were getting my money and when the mail stopped I stopped.

That's why we have to stay in front of prospects because if we don't they forget.

I am not disputing that it works, and yes...keep in front of prospects, sure!. I just personally didn't like the tone of the letters. Also, and I am sure I will be corrected if I have this wrong , the series of letters referred to was initially writing on an existing clients letterhead. Great - if your client agrees.

Personally, although I am happy to write testimonials for others and pass on business, I wouldn't agree to someone using my stationery to basically badger someone else.

But hey, just my opinion. I prefer to be a little more subtle and nurture relationships.

With regard to the good causes example, I had something similar happen to me, and I stopped donating. In any event, fund raising for charity and asking someone to buy your latest range of kitchen appliances should be two different things. However in today's world where 'results are king', it would appear they are not.

Flag down Harlan Kilstein, and ask him about "polarization." It can quadruple your sales.

Remember, the only bad response you get is no response. And as a copywriter, you've surely discovered how sales writing is counter-intuitive. Hope this helps.

I bought some GKIC products and ended up getting tons of emails. I started using them as a template for my follow up sequences. I did get a lot of emails from people that seemed annoyed. However, I was keeping track and those that seemed irritated by my emails ALL purchased. 100% of them. I'm a bit of an antisocial, so I changed them to be less intrusive. I now get much fewer responses to my follow up emails.

Wow...glad you got the results you were looking for.

Even so, personally speaking, I wouldn't want to 'annoy' prospects into purchasing stuff. IMO it's just not cricket.

It is an interesting insight though, thanks for sharing that.
