Captain Crunch and the Copywriting Cowboys

If it wasn't for Captain Crunch, you might not have a iPhone today.

The man who made Apple possible is in trouble?and you can help him

In the article, Steve Wozniak describes the very early days before Apple, how he and Steve Jobs learned advanced techniques in phone phreaking from John Draper, aka "Captain Crunch."

Draper needs some help now, hence the appeal from Woz.

You can learn a lot from how they hacked the phone system. Woz says, "Realizing that you can be clever and do things only a magician could imagine sets you up with an understanding that the impossible can actually be possible. It leads to deep exploration trying to find ways past barriers in tech systems, a hacking mentality. When you do things for yourself, for personal reasons and for fun, you can do the impossible."

That's why you should have your own products, sales funnels and copy. It's smart financially, sure. But there is another benefit: You have the freedom to experiment, test and explore that is not afforded you when working on client projects.

It's one reason I admire copywriting cowboys like Joe Sugarman. Creative, inventive, fearless. He was always coming up with new ideas, schemes and approaches. His playfulness and creativity was infused in the copy itself, making it more alive, compelling and powerful.

Find the time to create and sell your own products. All of your copywriting will get better in the process.
