Need a bit more information. Is this to sell products or services? What kind of marketing are you going to do? Are you going to write articles, post You Tube videos, webinars, etc.

It's good you are asking the question ahead of time. There are so many options out there you don't want to get stuck with a dead end platform and have to switch later.

RealDude, Thanks. I think you got it. I am heading into something about the B2B now and later a C2C.

The whole idea is, I wanna do some consulting for a company which do b2b using their existing system which is a very old. They will be happy if I can get some input for them. I showed them my products too. But they are just insisted to know what is the current market. Their business is selling the products for women and kids. They wanna a launch a new portal with all brand new features.

Hope this should help you to get me some inputs.

      Thanks

Here is some general e-commerce marketing info Lists of Ecommerce Websites and Internet Retailer Sales Trends | BuiltWith you can also drill down to specific markets, such as Women's Fashion and see who the major players are and what platforms they use.

Another source is to do a search on Google for the specific product then go to www.compete.com and enter the web address. You will see how many visitors they have and what the trend is. Also you can find their competition and "follow the trail" to get a feel fro the market. Here's one I ran through so you can get a feel https://siteanalytics.compete.com/eshakti.com/

Another source is Google Trends where you can see general global patterns for the specific markets and what countries are more popular.

Another source is Search Marketing Research & Tracking | SpyFu SEM Tools where you can enter either a web address (from #1) or product type and see a lot of information, including the ads that work the best.

Takes a little digging but you can find out a lot.

    Hope this helps,

    Dan

Before sourcing through Alibaba you might like to have a look at the thread How Trustworthy is Alibaba.com?
I would like to point out that all of the big B2B sourcing sites work on a similar basis. This means that in most cases you can't rely on what the suppliers say about whether or not they are manufacturers. Most of them are not.

You might be happy with that if you are satisfied with the low profit margins you get when you buy from wholesalers. For maximum profits you must go direct to the manufacturer.

Just think for a moment - where do wholesalers buy? A: From the manufacturers. They then add their profit margin and sell to you. You can go direct to the manufacturers and pocket that extra margin for yourself.

Because few people do any kind of searching on the forum I will repeat what I have written many times, that Gold Supplier status (or on other sites) Gold member, Premium member etc, do not earn that status. They BUY it.

I would advise all warriors to proceed with caution before accepting recommendations for B2B sites.

Tradekey is one of the most notorious of the B2B sites that get mentioned on this forum, and there are countless bad reviews on the internet about them.

Just like almost every popular B2B site they sell Gold, Silver, etc. status. Suppliers do not earn that status by giving good service, proving trustworthiness, providing good quality products etc. They buy that status and here is why:

On the Tradekey site this is the reason they say it is worth buying a high status symbol such as Gold Key: "Buyers prefer Goldkey members as they are looking for reliable businesses." (on other B2B sites it might be called Gold Supplier, Premium Member, or other names.) Remember they bought that status badge, they did not earn it.

There are very few B2B sites that I consider safe to use. I won't publish them online because it is important that people not only know what sites are safe to use, but they also need to learn safe sourcing practice.

When you read the sad stories of scams as published on the many reviews about tradekey, alibaba, aliexpress, globalsorces, madeinchina etc etc, it is obvious that a large number of people have no idea about safe sourcing.

See my thread: If your secret B2B portals are so safe why don't you share?

            REDDIT MARKETING, HACKERNEWS and QUIBB

These platforms curate compelling, business-focused content for the entrepreneurially minded. Your success in each of these communities is particularly contingent on your involvement and "karma" within them. Reddit is particularly tricky and users are sensitive to blatant self-promotion--as a general rule, for each piece of your own content that you share, share ten pieces of other people's content.

Alibaba certainly is the biggest by far but they don't sell products they only list suppliers, so Alibaba are not the scammers, but a lot of suppliers they list are.

Trying to find good suppliers by searching on Google can be very time consuming and frustrating. You do need B2B sites but unfortunately most get a large number of bad reviews and the basic reason is that the verification systems they use are not good enough.

The way most B2B sites verify suppliers is that they just verify that the business actually exists.

If the business has a higher rating than just "verified", that rating badge is intended to give the impression that they are more reliable, but all the higher ratings prove is that the business exists and that they have spent money to try to make you believe that they are more reliable.

There are safe B2B sourcing sites. Please read my post #12 and click on the thread at the end of that post.

These two sites are one and the same, and any person seriously wanting to source products to import would find them very frustrating. There are no addresses and they use yahoo and gmail email addresses.

The few listings they have often display the price as $0. The search facility on both sites always brings up the same answer:
"No information found. If you want to buy products, please email us at topbuysell@gmail.com . We always source from reputable global suppliers and manufacturers. We wholesale products at cheaper prices, too!"

Gold Supplier badges can be bought for $19 !!!!!

You may be doing OK by buying on Alibaba, but the chances are that you are buying from a trader or a wholesaler. The reason I say this is because the great majority of suppliers listed on Alibaba are not manufacturers even though they say they are.

Traders and wholesalers can never give you the same prices as they themselves pay when they buy from the manufacturers.

Do you know that the verification system used by Alibaba (and most other big B2B sites) is near useless? If a supplier is verified it means that they exist and have an office, at least for the day when they were checked.

If a supplier is a Gold Supplier it means that they have spent some money to convince you that they are to be trusted. There is no extra verification for a Gold Supplier.. They have been verified in the initial process and provided they pay the money to buy the badge they become Gold Suppliers.

For a long time the fee for a Gold Supplier badge was discounted by 90%, so there are thousands who only paid $299. Now there is a permanent "Lite" version of Gold Supplier that the buyers never hear about, but it only costs $699.

I suggest you read posts #8 and #12 and check out the thread links there. They have a lot more information on Alibaba and Tradekey.

I would listen to what Importexport says. Im only a newbie, but by using one of the sites that he recommends I found a brilliant supplier that really is the manufacturer and I got what I was looking for at a terrific low price.

I have already sold out my first little order at a big profit and now Im waiting for my next lot to arrive. I can only order small still, but Im on my way to building a business that I know will grow.

Thanks for reporting on your successful start @Shellg.

I have given good reasons why it's best to avoid most of the B2B platforms that have been recommended in this thread, and you have shown that taking my advice works.

Here is a post by another person who chose to avoid the sites that I say are risky:
"I have contacted some manufacturers already (from links he supplies) and I am just shocked at the low prices they offer for products I am researching. Forget Alibaba, Global Resource, whatever. The Ebook shows you where to find manufacturers, how to verify their credibility etc."

It is a pity that most people who post answers don't bother to read previous posts. If the subject of the post is worth commenting on surely it is worth reading what others have already posted.
