Where to you get good sharp product images for your ecommerce store?

I am going to start an e commerce clothing store: I was wondering where to you get large sharp images for your products? Do the merchants provide them? And are you free to use them?

I also want to combine some affiliate links within the site, do the affiliate networks provide good sharp images for you to use on your site? Not just basic banners, but large clear images of the products. Good pictures or bad ones can make a very big difference to the look of a store.

Most of the ecommerce website owners get their pictures from the vendor with whom they get their products. Basically they get the raw pictures and again it is resized with respect to the requirement. I have worked with two ecommerce companies and the same strategy goes with the process both the places.

Like the first responder said, most manufactures provide images that need to be resized. If you need a site to remove the background and create a standard all-white backdrop, I've heard of clippingmagic.com.

If you are selling on Amazon marketplace as well as your own site, be sure to take a good look at their policies regarding images. There are lots of regulations as to what deems a correct photo. All seller help pages can be found in Seller Central.

If you want to stand out from the crowd then get a photographer in when you get your first shipment. Also consider hiring models rather than posing on dummy's to get good lifestyle shots.

I agree. Theoretically you could get them from a supplier (assuming they take them) but it is better to take your own. You don't even need a photographer. Go in an area that has good natural lights and take "action" shots. Or worst case, get a mannequin, a backdrop and a lighting kit and take your own. With good lights you would be surprised at the quality of pictures you get with your iphone/android/windows phone.

Agreed... Most of the product images you can get from the vendor/supplier but you can select images by own for your store and the tips for choosing best images for your e-commerce store are here!
