Hi everyone,

Have been a long-time lurker on this forum. Have dabbled in all kinds of online marketing but recently ventured into creating an eCommerce website.

I dropship watches on the webshop. It uses WP+WooCommerce. I am offering various kinds of payment methods. Have implemented several factors of influence (Cialdini). For traffic I am using Facebook Ads, Google AdWords (search, product listings AND display). Furthermore I update the Facebook page, Twitter account and Pinterest account 5 times a week.

The webshop started a week ago and as of yet I have to see my first conversion. I am at a loss as to why nothing has converted yet. I have picked out some random watches and compared these with competitors. Either I am cheaper or equally expensive for most of them.

As for Google Analytics statistics goes I have created 4 segments. The regular All Sessions and Returning Users and the customized SWAY and SWAY Returning Users. These last two only include sessions that have seen at least 1 page AND have been on the site for at least 30 seconds. So in other words; these SWAY sessions are definitely qualified customers. Herewith a short overview:

All Sessions - 1,770 clicks - 82.54% new sessions - 56.05% bounce rate - 3.33 pages/session - 02:15 minutes avg. duration
Returning Users - 309 clicks - 63.75% bounce rate - 4.03 pages/session - 04:05 minutes avg. duration
SWAY sessions - 701 clicks - 84.59% new sessions - 6.74 pages/session - 05:40 minutes avg. duration
SWAY Returning Users - 112 clicks - 9.36 pages/session - 11:15 minutes avg. duration

Out of all this - even with the oh-so-famous-average-conversion-rate of 2%. I should've had at least 14 conversions by now. Yet; I have 0.

I can send a link thru PM to my website on request (not in English though but in Dutch).

I am really curious as to any tips/help/insights into why this website just isn't converting for me. Please help! Will really appreciate it!!

Send me a link to your website. I will take a look. You may be overusing AdWords with Text and Display, Shopping campaigns should be the majority of your ad spend.

Chances are either there is something wrong with the ads or there is something wrong with the website, could be product data, could be checkout, tough to say without knowing the domain.

Gone are the days when you can expect a new site to get a sale it's first week online. My suggestion is be patient, post on social media and other marketing avenues, and give the site time to be found. I don't know anything about the dutch market so don't know what marketing venues are right for you.

You might try offering an incentive like free shipping or a discount coupon, especially for the returning visitors. You are getting fairly high bounce rates so make sure what brought the customer to the page is actually found on the page.

Stop doing Facebook and Google Display ads - focus only on AdWords via keyword search results.

Don't bid on broad terms like "watches" - bid on specific models that you have in stock, then drop the user directly on those pages. Never send a paid visitor to your homepage, always send them to the page with the product they're looking for.

You need to establish a baseline conversion rate for your site under "ideal conditions" - meaning a customer who wants a specific product, landing on the specific page that lets them buy that product. Once you have that, then you can scale it while fine-tuning your landing pages to improve conversions.

Social traffic, banner traffic, and keyword traffic all converts differently - and they all convert LESS if you just drop the visitor on your homepage.

Thanks for your input, it's appreciated! I made an error in my e-mail. My webshop went live a month ago, not a week ago I am also currently offering free shipping. I can try using a discount coupon for my ads. Perhaps that will work out. I figured a bounce rate of 56% was pretty good especially considering I have been using a lot of PPC/PPV traffic. And that number is a bit skewed. About 75-100 clicks were generated at 100% bounce rate because I accidentally forgot to exclude In-App Displays on Google.

Anyway will try and fine-tune my PPC/PPV campaigns to more specific types. Although I am afraid traffic will be extremely low.

Thanks for your input as well. To address your reply; I have actually had better bounce rates and pages/session with Facebook Ads (~40-50%) than with Google AdWords (both Display and Search ~80-90% bounce). Although it is hard to gets these numbers right as I think some of FB's clicks and some of Google's clicks tend to not send a correct refferal but are listed as Direct instead in Analytics.

I have a shopping campaign up but the traffic is horrible, even with decent CPC. Will increasing CPC there actually improve my traffic?

For my PPV campaign I have a products listing ad which does send customers straight to the product they click on. For the PPC campaign I have recently tried using terms with brands i.e. Armani Watches which then send the customer to the Armani Category page. Since this isn't working out too great either I'll be trying your suggestion first by sending them straight to products. Although in the watch business these products tend to have just an ID-number with the watch i.e. Replay RM3305NH instead of something like Replay CoolWatch or whatever (made that up). So I bet I would already rank pretty high for product specific searches. Spending money on PPC for that could be a waste. But I am going to give it a try since CPC competition is most likely low.

      Thanks a lot!!

Hard to say more without seeing your site, but make sure your product pages includes all information they need to make a buying decision - price, options, a great description, notice about free shipping, delivery details, etc. as well as a way to contact you for questions, etc. Customers often only look at that item and if they don't see all the info they need to know, bounce.

You are doing well, trust me, the fact you've identified the above is progress. I think with conversions (and any marketing for that matter) you need to set goals. How many customers do you need? How quickly do you need them?

Hi, thanks for the input! Appreciated. I just wish I could take a sneak peek inside my customer's brain to see what they're thinking (wouldn't we all ). I am going to see if I can get some questionaires on certain pages of my site. With a bit of luck some people will answer it.

I am also thinking of adding a chat option. Furthermore to meet another factor of influence I might give away a free e-book with each purchase. But I am unsure if this wouldn't hurt the 'professionalism' of the site? And lastly I am in the process of offering a pay-after-14-days option. Perhaps that will convince people to buy. Although only a few have ever made it to the basket, let alone the checkout.

It's just strange that (in my opinion) I have good ad copy and targets for my AdWords campaigns but the traffic seems horrible (very high bounce rate; 90%+) compared to Facebook Ads which has decent bounce rate (40-50%). Plus the fact that there hasn't been a single purchase but quite a few long browsers seems off.

First of all, your bounce rate indicate your visitor, only 50% of them are interested on your shop, while the other 50% come and when off straight.

Secondly, since your visitors almost all of them comes from paid traffic, did you indicate a word "buy" on your ad copy, with the price? That would avoid a lot of wanderer and save your cost on ad campaign.

Thirdly, did you try the payment processor yourself either if they work or not.

Fourth, did you have plugin like "share this post", "bookmark this page" etc to build a brand?

    Just my opinion.
