Dropshipping USING Amazon?

Hello all,
I am hoping to set up a website that sells a certain product, for now I'll refer to as Product A. Product A is a physical product.
I do not actually have Product A, but here is what I am hoping to do.

1. Set up a website and use a landing page to promote Product A.
2. If someone decided to buy Product A, they will purchase from the website.
3. Then I will go to Amazon, buy Product A from a supplier/store.
4. Send Product A to person who purchases from site as "gift".

I will sell Product A at a higher price, making me X amount of profit. The higher price will be justified for this reason: Person who purchases Product A from my site will receive a digital eBook that I have written on how to use Product A, tips on making Product A useful for them, and information he/she cannot usually get from the glorious internet.

My question to you guys is: Is this doable? Can I sell something I do not own on my website, and use Amazon as the supplier by purchasing from a store and sending the product to the purchase (marking "send as gift" during the purchasing process). What problems do you see occurring if I end up doing this?

One problem I see is returning Product A, for cases of dissatisfaction. But other than that...

Rather than purchasing the item at RETAIL on Amazon, why not just contact the manufacturer of "Product A" and see if they will wholesale it to you? If they will, they are likely to also be willing to "dropship" that product direct to your customers and the margins in this scenario are going to be FAR BETTER.

If the manufacturer of product A won't dropship, they will likely provide contact details for the distributors who buy in bulk from them and are VERY likely to dropship.

You can still do your "free bonus" idea, but this model is much more logical AND feasible in my opinion! It also solves the "customer returns" problem as well because dropshippers are almost always willing to take back returns and handle damage claims.

I agree with Dave. Find a wholesale supplier even if light bulk. Maximize your margins. Your bonus idea is a good one.

Your best bet may be to charge X amount more than the items can be purchased for on Amazon and when a customer makes a purchase, you could buy the item on Amazon and have it sent to the customer and eventually build up the amount of data needed to make an educated guess on how much of an inventory will sell in a set period of item.- then approach a distributor or wholesaler and buy that set amount and offer it for sale on your site. Your margins should be better once you buy in bulk.

I think people are not really understanding what you mean with the gifting concept - you are using the Gift option so the customer doesn't receive an invoice receipt in their package or see who purchase the item.

The eBook addition will work, as you are receiving their e-mail address from when the customer makes the payment.
