Iv been using wordpress/woocommerce but I have been experiencing issues with getting hacked....

What platform is the most sharpest to use? But not so expensive? Its a new brand, not generating any revenue yet. But I need something with a blog on it as well.

I like BigCommerce for clothing type stores. They have slick product options and inventory features. For options like "color" you can display a grid that makes all color options visible at the same time.

Is there anything cheaper than $29 a month? Or what about a free one like big cartel but you upgrade if you want more options or more products?

We work with a Fashion & Beauty Incubator, they use Magento, Hybris, WebSphere with a special architecture over them to make them act like Michael Kors, Asos & Net-A-Porter. Shopify, WooCommerce are for niche and have all sorts of problems if you want rapid growth, however for most small business they are fine so would usually suggest Shopify.

I was going to ask the same thing! Going from CubeCart to something else , like WordPress /Woocommerce but worry about the hacking too, maybe will get someone to tight the security really good
i think it should work! Wp has lot of options , as in cubecart or others , where ever you turn is money for every mod, edit, etc.

Choice of Ecommerce cart Depends upon whether you are Manufacturer, Retailer, Wholesaler/ Dropshipper or affiliate. Every Ecommerce cart is different.

I wouldn't really suggest you Magento. Magento is a great platform, no doubt, but it is a resource hog too. So you would have to invest on getting a good server. Plus, magento developers are usually expensive than those of other platforms.

My advice would be to look for Opencart. It's free. Good on security.

  • Bigcommerce, Shopify and Magento may be your best bet for a fashion site. How comfortable are you with building the site yourself? Magento is free to use, but must be built by you or a developer you hire, so there are some costs involved. Shopify is easier to work with if you're less familiar with back-end development, and has a starter plan for $14/mo. I think its very basic and lacks some of the cool stuff you can do with the other plans - but if you're just getting off the ground and need a site to start working with, that may be a good option for you?

Keep us posted as you what you decide. Good luck!

Iv always used wordpress/woocommerce but for some reason hackers have been getting into all of my sites very easy.... But the layouts shopify uses look amazing. My brand is just too new to afford $29/month.

Shopify is your best bet because of how many apps are out there to connect to your store. Your average order value should be $50-$75 if you have upsells and cross sells in place correctly.

That depends, most start with Shopify but if you want international or rapid growth it's going to hold you back and you need to move towards Prestashop or Magento. An incubator in fashion might be interested in talking to you, they have launched an architecture for fashion & beauty verticals.

You're problem is this, growth is accelerating in international countries (Global B2C Ecommerce Sales to Hit $1.5 Trillion This Year Driven by Growth in Emerging Markets - eMarketer). All the online platforms are national, most smaller platforms are national with a touch of international. If you want growth, you need to expand but without full end to end pricing (including import duties) to the end customer (Net-A-Porter) which not even Magento can do then you are restricted to the declining growth patterns. That means the top retailers will push in to the smaller retailers markets to increase their growth nationally. We use a specially adjusted platform for startups (if you have a good business plan they'll fund it) for international sales worldwide so avoid all this, why make your life hard when you can make it easier, follow the growth using the most reliable tools, Shopify/WooCommerce where you use untested third party functionality, just won't cut it.

Well, according to my personal opinion, you can prefer the Magento or Opencart based upon your business needs, because both of them are the best for ecommerce business. In other words, we can say that, Opencart is light ecommerce platform use for small website but the Magento is the heavy platform use for enterprise business plans.

So you would not recommend buying a premium theme from themeforest and running wordpress/woocommerce?

    How can you avoid hacking?

If it's WooCommerce you are after for simplicity, run it on WPEngine via a ThemeForest theme, they handle all security aspects for you.

Even I had the same wordpress platform earlier which can easily be hacked by people so I thought to move with HTML thats more beneficial.

I am not sure if the SSL is your problem. Sending encrypted information does not keep your site from getting hacked. I would bet that the problems that you are running into are one of the below:

    1. You are using a free theme that somehow is allowing a backdoor into your site for people that know about it.

    2. You are using a plugin that is allowing someone in.

    3. Your computer has a virus and they go your information that way.

Yes, people get into wordpress all the time, that is a given, but they do not normally get into the ones that are up to date with the theme and the plugins that are in use. You need to start clean and figure out where they are getting into the site, once you have that nailed down you can correct the problem and stay ahead of it in the future.

Honestly it may have been because someone had access through my cpanel. Someone had changed every page on every site... They took files and replaced them with theirs. I have given people my cpanel before who have helped me with WP issues in the past.

    What about using SiteLock??
    {{ DiscussionBoard.errors[9947109].message }}

@mrmax That's Magento Enterprise at $18,000/yr license fee plus the CE solution for fashion & beauty we help launch sites via does more for less and ranks higher, eBay were quite upset with them for obvious reasons. Rather a big jump from WooCommerce!

Shopify is easy to setup and the platform is quite user-friendly too. The most basic is less than $20/ month I think. If you have more SKUs, then you may want to upgrade to a higher plan.

The only down side right now is that everything is fresh. I'm not making any profit at all. So I want to start free first until I make some $$.

Well, According to my personal opinion, Magento is the best ecommerce platform for running a clothing line. The reason behind this, Magento provides lucrative themes regarding clothing line such as Fashion Store, GFashion, SNS Dmmk and so on.
