Hi,
Keep going round in circles here, I`m interested in maybe starting a site selling a popular outdoor product think water skis,

Anyway I can only see 7 or 8 companys that actually make these products they are big companys like O`Neill although there are 100`s of different designs, sizes, styles ect ..

But every site I can find on this niche stocks the same 7 brands so is that enough ? I`m really new to this so I dont know which is why I`m asking you guys for all I know thats plenty.

Any advice would be great

Thanks James

I would normally go for at least 10 different stores, but if these guys have been around for sometime and have a good track record 7-8 will be fine.

Is this your first store? if so go ahead and jump straight in you will learn so much and don't be afraid to fail, that is what holds most people back, failure.

Hi yes its my first store, I`m no stranger to making money online I`ve done pretty well over the years with SEO and affiliate marketing but I`m tired of playing around with SEO tricks and all the BS I want to build a real e commerce site and something I can be proud of for a change.

And yes I can see about 7 different manufactures and yes there all seriously big names with each manufacturer making alot of different products shapes, sizes, designs ect, but I posted this post because I did watch a drop ship course and the niche the guy picked had many many different manufactures he could contact to ask if he could drop ship for them and I just wasnt sure if I needed to follow that.

  • I say this a lot, but I hope your research was done before choosing this niche. (I'm not sure why you told everyone it, if you did.)

If you did find demand, commercial intention, competition, profit margin, etc, then yes, 7 manufacturers is plenty.

But, based on your cornerstone content keyword, you don't want to branch off of that based on relevance proximity.

      Hi,
I didnt tell anyone my niche just mentioned something along the same lines I guess.

Yep plenty of commercial intention, competition, profit margin, etc.

But, based on your cornerstone content keyword, you don't want to branch off of that based on relevance proximity... Emm not exactly sure what that means could you explain ?

I appreciate your plug! Thanks for that.

Now, on my mention of the keyword.

The basis is this: you start with a keyword that has commercial intention, demand (but not too much, just enough) and manageable competition measured by website authority.

One you have THAT keyword, you then stem each page based on that keyword. You can find the relevant keywords in the Adwords Keyword Planner (as well as the other metrics.) In fact, you'll see the keyword list populate 'on relevance.' These are the keywords that tell you where to go as far as your website blueprint.

The proximity principle (which is a linguistic term on how language is organized in the brain) is applicable to these keyword relevance metrics.

Google is basically telling you that if you want to optimize for that main keyword, you're also going to mention the other keywords, probably.

This is how you find category page keywords, product page keywords, etc.

        Enjoy -
