Hello All,

I am curious as to everyone's opinion on this...

I am in the process of building an authority style website that will have lots of useful and help helpful information within my niche. I will also have a section that will have around 200 products from amazon (affiliate links) for my given niche.

My question is this, do I need to rewrite all of the product descriptions that that they are unique or can I just copy and past the product descriptions from Amaon?

Thanks in advance!

I am not an expert, but happy to provide my opinion. Feel free to disagree.

    Don't copy and paste.

    Why?

    1. Google doesn't like duplicate content. They will rank you lower organically and charge you more for CPC due to quality score

    3. Poor conversions. Using stock text will lead to poor conversions compared to descriptions that grab YOUR particular readers more (for instance, if you inject your own personality and humor into your authority blog, but your product descriptions are dusty old amazon copy/pastes, your readers may not be as compelled to click through and buy.)

    3. Bridge Page Violation - If your site (or even just the landing page you direct ads to) does not offer original, valuable content as determined by google and instead directs them straight to another website as your affiliate links will, this is a violation of their bridge page policy and will result in a potentially permanent ban on your account.

This will only affect you if you're using adwords.

    +1 for everything Adam said.

Try rewriting the text and add some more value.

Features of the products are fixed (e.g. for laptops) - you can, however, give them a twist.

Instead of having a separate page for affiliate products with duplicate descriptions, insert your affiliate links within relevant quality content. This way the user will be pre-sold and you will have better conversions.

      Caitlin is right...

I didn't think to ask, why are you creating a separate page for all of your affiliate links anyways?

This may make sense if the products are all related and you want customers to browse them and pick a favorite.

But if they are not related, it may make more sense to embed the links in individual blog posts, as Caitlin suggested

This is a authority site, the main draw to the site will be the information available on the niche, lots of information and how to articles. There will be a section devoted to equipment which is where my ecommerce catalog will be. I am using a shopping cart and plugin that will send buyers to amazon when they go to checkout.

If you want some love from the search engine then you will need to re-write the 200 product description.

The easiest way to go about this is by creating an astore.

However, you can do very well using a review site because astore creates duplicate content all over the net.

With a review site you can optimize your home page with relevant keywords of your proposed product.

Your home page should be set to blog and the post is where you write about a single new product you want to promote.

For example, if I want to promote smart phones. I will pick out the good keywords for mobile phones and product names like iPhone, Samsung, HTC and optimize my home page for them. I will then rank the site for the various keywords, SEO takes time though.

The post will appear on the home page and that's where every product you want to sell should have it's review content.

Aside SEO, any traffic you want to send to your site should get to the home page because every product on Amazon have a life cycle. You can still optimize the single post for keywords like iPhone 5 and 6. Just an example.

I hope these helps shed light on how to make it big with amazon. If you care to notice, most authority sites drive their traffic mainly to the home page and then make their site navigation easy for their visitors.

    Good luck.
