Hello Warriors, hope you are doing well. I am planning to step into eCommerce with Magento. At best 3-4 small stores and small amount of traffic at the beginning. Where do you think I should host? I am stuck between DigitalOcean and Siteground. Please help me with your advice.

Thanks in advance.

    I STRONGLY recommend Nexcess.net.

We have used several different Magento hosts and hands down Magento tech support is miles ahead of the others.

I personally use SiteGround and recommend them.

Here's a video I made explaining why I chose them over the other WP hosts.

I suggest Cloudways for WordPress Hosting. Cloudways is an intuitive cloud hosting platform, that enables novices, bloggers, designers, developers and agencies to easily manage and deploy applications on DigitalOcean, Amazon EC2 servers and Google Compute Engine.

What Cloudways does is optimize and setup all the necessary software on the DigitalOcean and Amazon EC2 servers. You don't have to worry about installing Linux, MySQL, PHP, Varnish, Memcache, Apache, Nginx and other scripts on the servers.

    Prices start at $15/month.

    Features of Cloudways Platform:
    Installation
1- Selection from DigitalOcean (5 data centers) and Amazon EC2 servers (9 data centers) and Google Compute Engine (3 regions)
2- One Click Application Installs (WordPress, Magento, Drupal, Joomla, Prestashop, support for all php based applications)
3- Server scaling, based on bandwidth, hard disk space, processor and RAM.
    4- Billing on hourly basis.

    Server Features
1- 15 real time monitoring features.
    2- Vertical Server Scaling
3- Service Management (Nginx, Varnish, MySQL, Apache, Memcache...)
4- Advance Server settings (Upload size, execution limit, memory limit etc.)
    5- SSL Certificate Configuration
    6- Automatic Backups
    7- Server Addons (Email settings)
    8- Dedicated IP
    9- Unlimited Domains
    10- Unlimited Application Installations

    Application Management
    1- SFTP connection
    2- Dedicated MySQL Database
    3- Application Restore
    4- Application and Server Cloning
5- Git Integration and Deployment Via Git

All servers are automatically updated and patched as soon as new updates are available.

Magento hosting is NOT the same as Word Press hosting. Magento is EXTREMELY resource intensive and its only recommended to use a host that has extensive experience hosting Magento.

I realize that others will disagree with me and suggest that you can host a Magento site on a generic $6.99 / month hosting plan. Please trust me when I tell you that you will not be happy with the results - especially when you have performance problems.

I'd check out a shared hosting package with Nexcess. They are as good as it gets when it comes to Magento hosting.

      Hi,

We would recommend to choose providers that offer Magento hosting packages or at least host some Magento stores. Their servers will be properly configured to host your Magento websites too.

We gave some tips on what to consider when selecting hosting for your Magento website in our posts "How to select hosting for Magento". Part I and Part II. So, if you have 10 minutes of spare time, have a look at them to learn more about peculiarities of hosting for Magento.

Speaking about us, we partner with Properhost and Rapidservers. Both providers offer 20% discount to our clients (we are specializing on Magento development) and you could use it as well by providing our promocode.

      Regards,
      Magecom team

Number one stay away from Shared Hosting, you will encounter problems and problems... We found out that VPS hosting will be fine with Magento and in this field, Amazon Cloud hosting runs smoothly with Magento but you have to be someone technical to tame her.
