    hello there,
i've used weebly before. Where do you plan to host your weebly site at? With hosting services it's more convenient but they won't help you much when it comes to weebly's site technicality. If you host with weebly.com you'd get all the help you want. They are good with that but not much when it comes to database and file management. Not exactly your ecommerce solution. Then there are extras for upgrades, shopping carts, widgets, etc they usually come with a fee. I built my digital audio download store on it. Once you get a hang of it, their css and html editor is very straight forward, duo screen live editing on their server. But that was my last site on weebly, i've found more freedom and tutorials with wordpress. Much more budget friendly that's for sure. Weebly is easier because it's drop and drag editing, links were extremely easy to create.

Thanks for your reply. Another option is WIX or Woocommerce/Wordpress. We are in the grocery niche and which one would you suggest? Which one is easier to work with?

grocery as in article and blogs, or as in product listing? Wordpress no doubt for articles, but if you are going to display a lot of products...maybe u should think about get like a zencart, taht's open source so there is always tutorials and their forum the people are super nice. Before i didn't know i thought shopping cart was like a payment processor or gateway like paypal..sillie me, you can literally build a whole site with zen cart. You can customize the layout, the inventory system is already there unlike the rest of the website builder. So if your emphasis is only looks and functionality go with wix for the basic, wordpress more advance bc there are literally a sea of plugins for everything you could imagine. But if displaying products is your main focus, get a cart. But watch for the lil small print on the payment process percentage though. Each cart has pros and cons on what they offer, you would have to see for yourself what fit you most.

  • If you are going to be selling a fair amount of products, I would try out hosted shopping cart software like Shopify, Bigcommerce or 3dCart. Each have a variety of themes to chose from that are attractive and easy to customize. I work for a 3P inventory software, and we integrate with each of these website builders. Our customers are happy with them, so I feel confident passing along a recommendation.

This would be a safe route yes, much less work. Convenient yes, but you do pay for it because spopify and these carts charge you a percentage, plus on top of paypal. You set up the cart yourself through open source you'd save yourself one middleman"s fee sorta speak.

You CAN do it with weekly and six, the question is, do you want to. The e-commerce functionality is rudimentary at best, and doesn't really provide you tools to grow your e-commerce business. Like others have said, if you want the ease of something like Weebly or Wix, but the full functionality, then go ahead and try out something like Shopify, BigCommerce, Corecommerce, 3Dcart, etc.

Woocommerce will work as well but it will not be as easy as using weebly and then you will also have to deal with patching and updating your site consistently to avoid data breaches and hacks. Depending on number or products, categories, etc. try out Shopify and BigCommerce.

If you are going to run your own code with something like Prestashop, Opencart or even woo commerce, from what I can see, that company will be just fine. Just realize, if you are not used to dealing with servers, there are more cost than just the VPS including Maintenance, Cpanel (so you don't have to use command line) whether you want cloud linux, etc. All of these things add up over time.

You will probably need to budget $60 bucks or more if you want to use that company to run your e-commerce store through them. I don't see what type of maintenance or upkeep they keep. that is why for that amount of money, you can start out on one of the hosted platforms for the same amount and not need to worry about server maintenance and upkeep.
