I am researching ecommerce platforms (Shopify, Magento, etc.) to figure out whether I could use these well known platforms for an online store which will be selling goods in Taiwan. Do any of you have experience running an ecommerce site in Taiwan?

Platforms are platforms and can be used the world over. Payment gateways.. now that can be a different story.. but in Taiwan, I have used allpay, paypal express, and 2checkout as gateway options - depending on the platform.

Thanks for the response. You got it - what I meant to ask was which platform works with payment gateways that support Taiwan. If you don't mind, could you elaborate on your experience using allPay and 2Checkout. Which one would you recommend?

I would want to say over time most of the sites I have set up for clients in Taiwan ended up using AllPay. Of the choices I would say that Allpay and Paypal would be the 2 I would look at universally among all the site development platforms.

It obviously depends on who your overall target is. if you are looking to do more business outside of Taiwan then I would say Paypal. If you are looking to be a more regional nationalized type commerce site I would suggest AllPay.

Of course you'll need to make sure that whatever platform you use has support for traditional Chinese characters.

Regarding PayPal, there was a recent change. The only way to receive funds is to have a local bank account at E. Sun Bank - no other payout options are available.

2Checkout, from what I recall, doesn't support the New Taiwan Dollar but does support the language. You can get payouts in USD though.

Why do you want to sell in Taiwan? It is hard to sell in Asia especially in Taiwan since the income has been bad for years, the fresh grad salary is around the same level in China now. It is hard to make any profit when the average salary is not high except you somehow sell something that is very unique and they really want.

I am also curious why you choose Taiwan and what do you plan to sell here? I currently live in Taiwan and I run some websites targeting customers here in Taiwan, so I have some experience in the market here. I am using PayPal with E.Sun Bank and that works well. I didn't try AllPay since it's not English friendly and I can't read Chinese.
Anyone else with running a business in Taiwan, please share your experiences!
      Good luck.

Hi everyone. I am setting up a website here, powered by WooCommerce (WordPress). I am looking for a payment gateway solutions:
      - AllPay seems nice but as you said it's in Mandarin..
      - Baian: I am discussing with them but their fees are high (3.9%/transaction)

I would also like to get the convinience store delivery option (7/11, Family Mart).

      Your advices are welcome

      Thanks a lot,
      Thomas

Hey Thomas, what kind of products are you selling in Taiwan? I am still running my store here, but the only payment method I can accept is PayPal, which is not convenient for Taiwanese. I couldn't set AllPay to work, I even contacted them for help, but they only offer help in Chinese.
If you want the convenience store delivery, you have to ship the product yourself, they can make the payment to your bank account, I don't know other way except through AllPay.
    Good luck.
