How I Launched Online Shop and Why

Here's a brief story of how and why I now run online shop. This thread will updated with more posts about this venture. Questions and criticism appreciated.

"Two years ago after trading financial markets for seven years I decided it's not for me. Several factors contributed to the decision:
  1. I lost ability to consistently make money (equity swings were always big in day trading, but I started to feel like I'm losing control over it completely)
  2. I was really tired of looking at screens all day, not seeing people, not seeing anything but the markets.
  3. I got an offer to participate in a family business which automatically solved the problem #2 (I would communicate with a lot of people, spend a lot of time on fresh air etc.).
That's how I started selling auto parts. All is good, but one thing: I am tied to a particular location. Not that I move too often, actually I never did even when I made a living doing affiliate marketing or trading, but I like to travel often and want to have such an ability. If you're reading this post I guess it can be the case for you as well. Such passion for personal freedom is typical for our generation (I'm 37).

I focused on doing something online, because you are physically free only when you can handle things remotely. Search for solution brought me to reading the famous "4-Hour Work Week" by Tim Ferriss. BTW, he's 38 yo, speaking of generations and passion to freedom.

I guess almost everyone who read that book would agree it's quite intriguing and inspiring. I already had experience selling online as an affiliate marketer (between 1998 and 2005), but never thought of selling something tangible via Internet before. My bad! Needless to say that affiliate marketing is a much harder way to make money now than it used to be in early 00's. Plus you always depend on vendor's rules, policy, honesty etc.

To make the long story short, I decided and started selling auto accessories online in May 2015. And I run my own affiliate program now!

Results so far? Amazing! Especially considering my newborn online shop is targeted to Russian market and as you probably know, we're in the middle of hardcore economic crisis (ruble is literally crashing and burning and I sell import products).

I am far from achieving a true financial freedom yet (after whole three months of running a biz online, uh oh ), but certainly on the way to it and will update you on the progress and details of it."

Cool sharing. How do you import your goods? I am from Hong Kong and Chinese, is it safe to travel to Russia? We have a TV series showing Russia travel and it looks beautiful.

Certainly not more dangerous than say USA. Import mostly from China and Poland, direct contact with manufacturers or vendors here in RU.
