Using Paypal for check out

Hello,

I just set up a ecommerce site plushisland.com to sell toys. I am using paypal for checkout. So, when someone checks out, it redirects them to the paypal site. Does anyone have any experience with the pros and cons of using paypal versus a bank where they just stay on your site to check out? I am getting concerned people may abandon the shopping cart often if they get redirected, but I also have checked out on other sites with paypal and it seems fine.

Paypal is what paypal is.. as long as people know that is what they will be using I would not be concerned.

When you are looking to see if this does become an issue, you have to understand that on average the shopping cart abandonment rate is right around 60% and that includes sites that use onsite money collection.

Its when this number starts reaching the 70%+ mark that you may want to consider taking some action and trying another form of payment.

Pro's: If people are not going to trust you, directing them to PayPal will help add a little trust
Cons: You look like a fly by night operation (IMO) by not allowing onsite checkout.

Most legitimate ecommerce stores allow for check out on site as well as PayPal express checkout by just putting in your email address. You unfortunately, don't get those benefits.

Finally, your biggest worry is not about cart abandonment, but about customers actually getting to the cart in the first place. Your website loads way to slow (7+ seconds). You can blame this on several factors:

Crappy Hosting - You are using Godaddy, bottom barrel hosting, especially for heavy stores like yours.
Bloated theme - Salient is a slow theme and even with caching is hard to set up for speed
To many fancy graphical elements that take away from the shopping experience, add to load time and actually make it hard to read and shop
Images and backgrounds that are to large and not optimized for the web
    Missing key trust elements

Now, if you designed this yourself, these are mistakes many new designers/store owners can make, but if you actually paid someone to do this store for you, please dear god, get your money back and start over. There are to many things wrong with your site to go into at this moment.

Sorry if this seems a bit harsh but if you want success, especially in this business, you will need some harsh realities...

To do: Get off Godaddy servers. Look at either Veerotech, Site 5, Hostdime or some other higher quality hosts.
Create new home page that is easier to read, and will load faster
Optimize your images to make sure your site loads faster
Finally, look at Getting an SSL certificate installed, install Stripe and allow for both on site checkout, and paypal.

PayPal offers PayPal Pro which will allows customers to pay on your site without redirecting. It's $30 a month.

Paypal is the best merchant. Only problem in Paypal is that sometime there are fraud customers like they will bought anything from your site and afer order dispatched they will complaint Paypal regarding order. In most cases paypal refund amount to customer that is where loss is solely of seller. I would rather sugest you to make it like if amount is greater than 300$ than enable bank transfer only othersie if amount is less than 300$ paypal should be enabled.
