Hi all,

I'm trying to choose which ecommerce platform would suite me best. I don't have much clue on creating websites, html/css and etc. So I need everything to be done easily.
I've looked to the following solutions which look pretty promising:
Squarespace
and
Sellbeing

The last one is my choice for now.
Is there any other suggestions?

  • I have heard of Squarespace, but have no personal experience with it. If you are green when it comes to creating websites (I am too, no shame there!), then I'd suggest a hosted software like Shopify, Bigcommerce or 3dcart. Each of these provide pre-built store templates to choose from. They are designed to be easily customized and perfect for those of us without web design experience. Each software offers support as well. I work for a 3P inventory software, and we have customers who have stores on Shopify, Bigcommerce and 3dcart. We tend to hear only positive things about each of them.

Not sure what your budget is, but I know there are a couple price packages from each of these to choose from. Run a free trial, test things out and see who you like. Good luck to you!

I'm still having difficulties to work with SaaS solutions like you mentioned. I would prefer a self hosted solution.

Look google for : "self hosted or saas solution".

There are plenty of them, my favourites are :

      • Opencart (Great for small to medium stores)
      • Cs Cart (Fabulus for awesome sites, but it is not open source)
      • Zen Cart (Open source, complete and one of the oldest e-commerce solutions)
      • Magento (Extra, central nuclear station, great for huge projects)

It all depends on the features you need.

I haven't used Squarespace, but I've heard great things about it! Honestly, choosing a platform is like choosing a phone. Once you get comfortable with one, you'll find out that most offer the same functions with a different User Interface.

    Hope this helps

I have actually made 2 websites with Squarespace. Yes, you can make decent looking websites, but it is NOT for beginners, intermediates or experts.

It is a nightmare to use.

Magento is the best option for online business owners and ecommerce websites. It has many features like the products are categorized properly, it has multi shipping facilities to the same buyer and it can support multi currency payment options.

If you want customized eCommerce website, simply go for complete PHP, HTML, CSS, JavaScript coding. Then only you can customize your site depends on your needs and everything.

if you go for external eCommerce platforms, have to use more plugins depends on your needs, this may increase your site loading time...

I strongly recommend Shopify. I had a shop on there and it was super easy to use and there shopping cart is awesome.

The ease of use is one things, but the second reason are the apps they have available. Literally anything you can think about. Coupon popups, shipping plug-ins, wholesale portals, basically anything you need to get the most out of your shop.

Plus, they are constantly innovating and staying ahead of the competition. Definitely a company you would want to be associated with.

  • Shopify will be a good choice but you can try some other choice like the clone scripts available in the market. There a number of etsy clone scripts available in the market. You can make use of them to create your ecommerce website. The major advantage with these scripts is that you don't have to start everything from the scratch.

If we are talking about e-commerce platforms, we have to choose between shopify and magento. That’s the real nature of things.

I use Woocommerce. No monthly shop fees. Only cost is the extensions you want to use with it and once you buy them, there are no recurring fees. You can build as many stores as you want and it's as easy as installing Wordpress and plugins.
