"Hidden blogs" on eCommerce sites

Hi, I have noticed, that some eCommerce sites have "hidden blogs" on their domain. By "hidden" I mean, that they cannot be found through the link structure on the site, but has to be accessed otherwise (through Google, direct, linking from elsewhere like social media).

What is the reasoning behind having these "hidden blogs"? Do they boost the SEO better for the sites? On the one hand the traffic only flows the 1 way that these eCommercers are most interested in - From their content marketing through to their products. On the other hand might it not frustrate users when they come back to view content on the blog, that they cannot find it through the internal linking? And does Google condone this practice, or wouldn't they punish it as a bad internal link structure?

What are your thoughts?

I am aware that a blogging sector on an eCommerce-site can be powerful - But does the upsides of not integrating the blog as part of the sites linking-structure outweight the downsides, and how/why?

The effectiveness of the "hidden" blog is up for debate. But ultimately the idea behind it is if someone lands on the home page for an eCommerce store they're generally looking to make a purchase, rather than trying to find information. The blog could take them out of that part of the buyer's journal.

On these sites the blog exists as an informative place for searchers who are looking for information to land on (raising the site wide authority and turning site visitors into leads).

My Woocommerce sites have that feature and writing popular articles for them regularly is a great way of getting visitors to your shop via the search engines. It also engages the customers with interesting articles.

There seems to be no logical reason behind hiding a blog on E-Commerce website, because blogs are a great way to get visitors and your customers are more likely to interact with you on your blog posts. Customers usually subscribe to blogs if they like website, so blog should not be hidden and it should be easy to access and it adds an extra value to your website if you have easy navigation for customers.

No ... it's not a big secret strategy of blogging. It's a simple SEO method to get more visitors to your ecommerce sites. The blogs don't have to be completely hidden either. With Woocommerce, you can let the links of your most recent posts show in the sidebar or bottom of the front page, and that's pretty much what I do.
