Shopify has many features, but it is logically structured. Setting up an online store is not complicated. So i choose shopify compared to ebay.

but its all depends on what you are selling.

I've been trying to figure out the same thing. But then I think that ebay is better since there are visitors there with their plan to buy. Unlike with shopify where you have to promote your services directly.

If you sale handmade/ vintage you can sell on etsy also.

They use two different models. ebay brings you more customers and gives you the opportunity to display your products worldwide. I will go with ebay.

You really should do both. Use ebay for its customer base and if a product really takes off, send it to your online store where the demand will follow.

What stops you to build a Shopify store with an App which will connect your Shopify with Ebay, so you can manage your inventory and sales on both platforms?

I have used shopify for about 4 years and I am very happy with it. I also sell on eBay.
We actively market to our eBay customers to get them to shop at our shopify store.

Even though shopify provide good platforms for your online based shop, the subscription fee just ties you up. For me the best thing you can do is do away with ebay and shopify. Embrace a platform called wordpress. It has several ecommerce themes which when well customized will suit the needs you want. Wordpress will help you a lot especially if you know less or no coding at all. The themes are usually at a one off price and you will avoid having recurrent expenditure for the shopify platform.

Neither is better, it will just depend on what you want to accomplish. It will be easier to get setup on eBay tho. And you already have traffic there. But with shopify you have full control over the customer experience, which is what I would go with for a long term business.
And oh yeah there is an app that you can use on shopify that will import your eBay listings to your store. So you could use both

You aren't really avoiding the ongoing cost with wordpress. Yes you could could use something like woocommerce, but once you start seeing decent traffic then that $10 shared hosting isn't going to cut it. you will want to find a vps. you are looking at upwards of $50 there ongoing. On top of that if you are using shopify, you can use shopify payment gateway. If you are going with wordpress you will need one for an ecom store. yes you can checkout with regular old paypal, but not too professional, plus customers either have to have paypal or have to create one at time of checkout. But if you use paypal payments pro, then they can checkout as guests which is another $30 per month. So you're already at $80 per month there or more. and you don't have any supoort to help you with actually setting up your website. with shopify for $80 per month you have what you need and there are many other added benefits. like the ability to add coupon codes(just to name one great feature) And their support has helped me with any issues I've had setting up my site. In a lot of ways, shopify is the wordpress of ecommerce because there are so many apps (aka Plugins) that are made to use with shopify, you can virtually do everything with them without having to know any coding.

Having a store on Shopify is something like you are having a Normal eCommerce store and you have to do marketing for your site to get traffic and make sales which will take around few months to setup everything.

On the other hand, eBay already have lots of customers, if you list your products in correct format with a great title, proper description and optimize your product correctly, you may get sales with in 24hrs. This is possibility and depends on your price, and listings status. But remember on eBay you should maintain a good reputation other wise its not possible to make business for long. Mostly buyers buy from the reputed sellers.

    Happy Selling!

I will go with Shopify for these reasons:
1-You will have your own ecommerce store with full control...
2-if you have a live website somewhere else, you are already paying for the hosting. so why you don't pay for Shopify (Start with $9/month).
3-With FB Ads, you can making a killing with your e-Commerce site and pixel and build your customer audiences...

eBay is only a channel of traffic but you don't own your store 100% or their emails...

      Thanks @Veenu and @Monsterd
I will check that website but I want to tell what my concerns are:
1- If I make my own website how can I make a safe money transaction on it? Shopify has it's own solution and charge us for that.
2- Can I add an e-commerce part to a regular website or I have to change the hosting.

Not enough information to answer. What are you "selling"?

Each is potentially "better" depending on what it is your business actually does or is planning to do.

Agree with others, neither is the best in the long term but might be the easiest. Use a simple wordpress or Magento store (both free when you get your own hosting and domain) and you own and control your destiny as well as have the freedom to market however you see fit. Both are essentially opensource and can customize to your liking and plugins and extensions for both allow for free or cheap enhancements so you don't have to reinvent the wheel. If a need doesn't fit, developers in PHP are numerous for both platforms.

I would always recommend having your own website and choosing a platform that's opensource even if it means more upfront work to get it going.

What you need to do so that you find the best option is to table the two alternative and make a comparison in terms of the probability of sales, the commission that you pay for both the two platforms. Be sure to also check in some of the added advantages or benefits of the two so that you find out the one that outweighs the other. It is always the best way to handle when caught up in such like situation.

I think Ebay is better because it has existed for a very long time and is famous worldwide. Ebay also has more traffic compared to Shopify. More traffic simply means more visitors and more customers.
