global shopping cart - one cart across multiple domains?

hi everyone,

anybody have any suggestions for sharing one shopping cart across multiple domains?

I have a couple of existing, inter-linked, e-commerce sites on separate domains that are running an incredibly out-dated custom coded solution, but they share a shopping cart, and i'm looking to modernize.

I have a couple of options as far as I can see:

find a good solution that allows me to continue operating as I have been, two domains with sep back ends where I manage products but that share a single shopping cart.

combine all of the products from both sites into one new e-commerce site and then 'pull' the respective products onto each domain?

anyone encountered this? Looks like lots of people are searching for solutions online but aren't have much luck...

Several products on the market will allow you to have a single back end with multiple websites. Americommerce does this if you are looking for hosted and if you are looking open source, Opencart, Prestashop and Magento allow you to have multiple storefronts with a single back end.

  From what I can see Magento does not actually support a single cart across multiple domains.
  
  It will do multiple stores but that is using subdomains and not individually domains:

  They all do it kind of, but not really in the way that it currently works for me and the way I'm trying to preserve...
  
  Ammericommerce does seem to do exactly what I want but i was trying to stay away from a hosted source.
