So I did not see a sticky for newcomers. I have a few questions about eCom:

So the basic idea of eCom is having your own website, buying things from a website for a certain price, and then listing that item on your website at a higher price, and then marketing it?

For example- buying sunglasses for $5 then selling them for $15 on your website (?)

What resources did you all use to learn about eCom?

I plan on using shopify for my website, and then aliexpress to buy my goods. How do you learn about pricing (what to price your product after youve bought it) and how did you learn about which products are good to sell? Also how do you buy products in bulk? I understand you can just automatically order a bunch from aliexpress, but what if you wanted a good amount and wanted a discount?

Thanks. I havent set up my shopify account yet, I just want to learn the basics before I dive in.

Any help would be appreciated. Not just for me but to others who are looking to start doing eCom. If enough people reply it could be sort of a starters guide since I don't see a sticky. Thanks!

      Hi Tyler,

      Welcome to the forum.

You are wise to gain knowledge first before diving in.

Ecommerce is much like any business. You try to produce something or sell something for more than it costs you.

I'd suggest studying some good basic business start up books to get an overview on running a business because running an online business is not a lot different from running any business....you need to make a profit.

As for the buying from China route you may want to check out threads and materials from Walter Hay...he posts on here as Importexport.

Here is a link to a review of his guide to purchasing from China. It will answer a lot of the questions you have in relation to buying products and negotiating suitable arrangements.

I'd also suggest reading a post by Jason Kanigan where I shared some management secrets in reply #7
