Hello Friends,

Greetings!

I need your advice. I scammed by a Chinese company. They claimed they sell liquidation. I paid them about $2000.

Is there any way to get my money back?

Please provide any possible way that may help.

Best Regards

That depends largely on how you paid them. If you paid with Paypal or credit card, just claim non-delivery and you should get your money back. If you paid with wire transfer or Western union you will most likely not see your money again. I would still of course contact my bank or Western union and ask if they can help.

    Hi anton433,

Thank you for reply. I paid by Western Union. But I have the company address and their bank account details in China and the corporation to which this company related.

Ask Western union if they can do something. Doubtful, but worth a shot.

Other than that, I can't think of anything you can do, except report the company to scam alert websites. It won't help you but might save someone else from the scam.

Western Union? China? Smells of trouble.
What do you mean they sell liquidation?

    Hello laurencewins,

There is a Chinese company sells online. They sell products by pallets. I placed an order and paid the amount but did not get the shipment. I paid them about $2000 by Western Union. This was last December and so far I got no feedback from them. They did not reply to my emails.

      What were the shipping terms?

The shipment could still be on it's way but it's of course very suspicious if they don't answer to emails.

Link their website, give us a name!

You fell for the oldest trick in the book, sadly. Getting your money back(from China) will be next to impossible. Had you used Paypal there would've at least been a very good chance.

So what is the liquidation thing you mentioned. It's difficult to understand what you have written.
Ordering stuff by the pallet load must be very costly.
Have you bought from them before?

Consider that December and January are quiet months for part of them. So what date did you order and pay for it. If they shut down over Christmas, they may not have opened again yet.

They said they will ship sooner but nothing done. I told them I will manage shipping process. They said okey but no feedback. I asked them to tell me their contact number but no reply.

A pallet of product from China?

One pallet, two pallets...what were the products?...were you organising the freight?

Perhaps the pallets are sitting there waiting for you to arrange pick up.

Which country was the product due to be shipped to?

      Where is the company located?

Have you contacted the supplier via a Mandarin speaker or writer?

Just possibly the one person who understands what you have written or said may not be there or your communication could be getting blocked.

Please share who the company is and where they are located.

i can't offer to personally help but I do have Chinese speakers in the family and various in-laws in mainland China and I also have some other friends who regularly deal with Chinese suppliers.

If we are talking about a purchase that was made two weeks ago it is still too soon to consider that it has failed. Most legitimate Chinese businesses have pride in their business and if you could share more details here you may find all is not lost.

      Best regards,

They were 4 pallets of toys overstock

Perhaps the pallets are sitting there waiting for you to arrange pick up.
I would like they would ask me to pick up the pallets but they did not answer my emails. By the way, I paid for shipping to my country.

        Where is the company located?
They claim they are in Shanghai.

Have you contacted the supplier via a Mandarin speaker or writer?
I contacted them by email. I tried their land phone but no body answered. It was connected to a computer.

Please share who the company is and where they are located.
        Have sent to your inbox

If you can help I will be pleased.

How long has it been since you last heard from them?

Do they have another email address or phone number on their website that you could try?

This was the first time I deal with them. I searched google after that and found out they scammed many people. It was late!

Ok, sounds bad. I don't think there's much you can do. I would maybe try to bluff them that you have a presence in China and you are going to report the crime to the police. 99.5% chance it won't work but what's there to lose?

Why didn't you research them before sending money? Due diligence and all?

      This situation was so avoidable.

I have a Chinese lawyer friend and although chances of getting any of your money back are very slim, I will PM you with his contact details if you like.

He has helped many westerners but says litigation rarely succeeds. He gets best results simply by bluffing. One problem is that paying for a lawyer now is a gamble because you are not likely to succeed, and you will have to pay the lawyer.

For the benefit of other readers I will point out that I have written in many posts that you should never pay via Western Union. Scammers love it because the money is not traceable.

It is most likely that the business is not even registered, and the address they gave you is false, so I don't like your chances.

If you care to email their name to me I can check them out quickly and let you know if they are in fact registered and where they are located.

Sorry to hear about the loss. Many of us have been there also. From now on use Alibaba.com and only use vendors that accept Paypal, this will give you double protection.

Sorry to disagree with you Scott, but using Alibaba gives very little protection. The verification process is a joke, only establishing that the business exists and was able to at least rent an office for the day they were "verified."

Thousands of people have been scammed by suppliers on Alibaba.

Many who have paid via PayPal have been scammed and been unable to get their money back because the scammers know how to beat the system.

It is a foolish step to pay any unknown site.
You always have to believe on the sites whose URL starts with https, in which s stands for secured. You may know the site of Microsoft has the URL with https. It means you can get money back from the company after any scam or reason.

This advice is not helpful. The "S" in https does nothing to provide protection against scammers. It simply means that the site provides a secure connection.

I have provided the OP with the contact details of an experienced lawyer in China, but it is extremely unlikely that he will recover any of his $2,000.

I don't think you can get money back. It will be impossible to get money back after scammed by an unknown foreign company. You must have to be careful before getting scammed by another one.

I am delighted to report that the OP has emailed me to let me know that he has obtained a refund.

I was pessimistic about his chances because I have seen so many scams, but he didn't give up and it worked.

      Congratulations to rezqon.

Glad to know you got your money back. Never send money by western union or money transfer and wired by the bank specially to a foreign country you almost always will loose with no recourse.
Always use a credit card specially for a large sum. Well you learned a lesson.

        That is good news.

When I had a look there was little hope of a positive outcome so it is great to hear that there was a successful outcome.

Hopefully the OP can share what tactic and strategy they used to elicit a refund so others can be aware of the pitfalls and courses of action taken.
