There is a forum section that has the words Drop Shipping in the name. That would have been the place to post about dropshipping. However, you shouldn't expect anyone to teach you how to do something that you haven't even attempted to learn anything about yourself. If you're not willing to do the easy work of research, you won't be able to do the hard work of running a business.

        Hey Zack,

You can go to Warriorplus.com and seach for "Ecom Black Box" in the market place section. It is the best product to learn about drop shipping for the beginner.

        Hope this helps.

Not at all. I gave him some of the most useful advice he could get and I did it for free and without trying to sell him anything. If he has any sense, he will pay attention and learn from what I said.

To start with you should familiarize with this article - A Beginner's Guide to Drop shipping. There're a lot of other useful articles there.
But of course you have to search and read a lot and we'll be ready to help you when you'll have some definite questions.
    Good luck!

Be careful. In fact, i wouldn't recommend a dropshipping business. But buying direct from wholesalers can be a good idea. Also, depending on the kind of products that you want to dropship... there are ALOT of scam sites out there. I was 1 day before spending $7,000 on PS3's (when they first came out) from this legit *looking* site. 3 weeks later the site disappeared without a trace. Luckily i didn't spend the money. Honestly if you want if do business online, stick with a business model that will be there for the long haul. And i dont think dropshipping is it. The cost of shipping each *small* order will murder you on every sale you make.

This should be considered good advice but it is also not necessarily good advice.

Sorry Randall, love your work by the way.

Your response where you say "depending on the kind of products that you want to dropship" is pretty critical as is

"The cost of shipping each *small* order will murder you on every sale you make"

These two things do go hand in hand with anyone's decision to dropship and it would be where I would tend to focus my efforts if I was considering that business route.

      I'll give you an example.

There are times when my business has been asked for a particular product.

All major suppliers are short of the required quantity of the said product.

We've been able to consolidate products from multiple competitors to meet requirements of customer who couldn't source product.

Admittedly we already had relationships with each party but by negotiating that deal we made over $8K net on a one big transaction for three phone calls and a few emails.

There are opportunities in drop shipping but it is probably not in the "common" markets that many people go after.

If you can drop ship 180,000 sheep to a starving sheep loving nation then you might be onto something.

If you are going to sell the "same old cr*p" as everyone else then Randall is right "Honestly if you want if do business online, stick with a business model that will be there for the long haul"

Carve out your space for the "long haul"

      Best regards,

      Ozi

I agree with Randall Magwood dropshipping is not going to be the best model. Learn buying in wholesale from websites like Alibaba and sell them on either ebay or your own store.

One person that teaches buying in wholesale that I would recommend is Andrew Minalto and you can check out Andrew Minalto here http://andrewminalto.com/

However if you still want to go fo dropshipping then these websites might help you

    1)- eFormulaEvolution.com

    2)- ProfitableOnlineStore.com

    3)- Insider.eCommerceFuel.com

    4)- DropShipLifestyle.com

    5)- StoreCoach.com

There are two points in the quoted post that I want to comment on.

"Wholesale." Why do people think that they can get the best prices by buying from wholesalers? Wholesalers buy from manufacturers, add a substantial margin, and then sell to you.

If you buy direct from the manufacturers yourself, you get to bank that extra margin. In fact, buying direct can result in huge profit margins. Warriors have posted on the forum about making 300%, 500% and sometimes more by buying direct from the factories in China.

"Andrew Minalto." There is no doubt that he is very good at teaching how to sell on eBay, and he has some very good suggestions to make about products sourcing, BUT.....

Like mostexperts who started off as marketers, he recommends almost exclusively that newbies should start of by buying through Alibaba or Aliexpress, although he does point out that Aliexpress prices are higher than Alibaba. That is only to be expected because Aliexpress is a retail site.

He states the way to be safe (he admits not 100% safe) in avoiding scams is to only buy from Gold Suppliers. His rationale is that they have paid a lot of money to become Gold Suppliers, so they aren't likely to be scammers.

In reality, they now pay a reduced price of $699 to buy a Gold Supplier badge. There have been thousands of cases of buyers being scammed by Gold Suppliers. See these threads:Alibaba - Scammers' Paradise?
Business with Alibaba.com, let me know how ?

There are much safer places to look for suppliers. I have taught people in 36 countries how to safely source from China and other countries, but I would not recommend Alibaba. I don't publish my safe sites online because there is a lot more to safe sourcing than just using a safe site. For more helpful information, and reasons why I don't publish those sites publicly see: If your secret B2B portals are so safe why don't you share?

As usual, Randall Magwood and Oziboomer are right on the ball.

The post by Oziboomer is mostly dealing with opportunity dropshipping. That is not something on which to base a continuing business, but it can be very profitable as he pointed out.

Randall's post contained very good advice to stick with a business model that will be there for the long haul. Too many new dropship resellers try to copy others and in doing so condemn themselves to selling on lower margins just to make sales. That is simply not sustainable. The idea should not just be to make sales - the better idea is to make profit.
