What is the most cost effective way to properly get a Business Tax ID in order to get established officially with major brands and their wholesale programs?

Most states require a Sales & Use Tax Certificate(number) which is different from a tax ID or FEIN. You can use your social security number as a FEIN if you're a sole proprietor.

Check your state's Comptroller website for exact info, but it's free.
