Dropshipping - Ebay UPC codes

Hello fellow dropshippers. I have a few questions regarding Ebay's UPC field if anyone could enlighten me. So here goes:

1) Does Ebay know if a UPC is really about the specific product or if it is GS1-authentic or unique outside of Ebay?

2) Do products with no UPC ("Does not apply") have any search ranking penalty? Are they lowered in search results?

According to Ebay...

"Buyers often search using product identifiers, so we require product identifiers to make sure your listings have maximum visibility in buyer search results"
...from what I understand UPC is only useful if the buyer is searching by UPC, am I correct?

3) Can I use an existing UPC from a seller who is selling the same product?

4) Can I reuse a UPC? For example, can I copy it from a non-active product of mine and use it for a new listing of a different product?

5) Buying UPC in bulk from Ebay sellers? Are they reliable? And do those UPC codes mean anything at all? (I know that if you scan a barcode with a smartphone you can see product information)

Are you talking about Amazon? I've never been required to input a UPC in ebay. I have no problem with sales.

I'm talking about Ebay, but I would like to know the same about Amazon.

I know that for Ebay it is not required to input a UPC and you can choose to show "Does not apply" instead.

Since you never had any problems I assume I am right about #2 and that there are no search ranking penalties.

What about the rest of my questions - what do you know?

I'm particularly interested about copying or reusing UPCs.

As far as Amazon, they do require UPCs. You can contact the product company for UPC information which is usually listed on their website. You can copy/paste the UPC from sellers if you are certain that it's the exact product, but getting accurate UPC #s from the company or your distributor is the only certainty.

If a product is original and/or private label, you can buy UPCs from various sites.

I have been using http://officialupccodes.com/ for a while, I'm currently selling on Amazon, ebay, rakuten and sears and I haven't had any problems. I would recommend them.
