    Where to start with dropshipping?

Not with the how? But, with the why and why not?

Before you do anything first understand the way that the dropshipping business model works. Understand that the structure of the industry is heavily weighted in favour of the wholesaler at the direct expense of the dropshipper (which is why so many dropshippers struggle badly to make a decent margin).

Once you've understood the business model then take a decision as to whether or not you should investigate the how to and weigh this against other ecommerce business models.

    Good luck with your venture.

        Google.

Use a google search for phrases like "Pros and cons of dropshipping" etc and you will start to understand some of the issues for that particular business model.

Then investigate other types of ecommerce models in order to get a wider, strategic, perspective. For example, my own business is in private labelling then using amazon as a selling platform as well as my own online store.

        Good luck with your venture.

Thanks for advice. I will do my own research yes, but was hoping that there was some threads or ebooks kicking around here, or people who are currently involved in dropshipping that might like to share their experiences.

There are plenty of threads just search up top.
If you're in the UK that will pose different issues if you want to drop ship in the USA, such as setting up an LLC and US bank account.

Anyway, it's fairly easy if you find good suppliers. The hard part is marketing and converting to sales if not selling on a marketplace.

The thing with drop shipping is if you are going to use Amazon you can't really use their FBA program. The reason for this is you are responsible for the condition of the items in FBA so if you never see the item(as with drop shipping)then you can't comment on them and you can't put a packing slip or stickers on the items either. The customer won't even know where the item(s)are coming from since there likely won't be an amazon sticker or come in an amazon box. Also, drop shipping is expensive and probably not recommended for the beginner.

How is drop shipping expensive? It's actually the most inexpensive way to start in ecommerce provided that you find a good supplier ---and there are plenty of good suppliers out there if you know where to look.

Well, if you think a minimum of 37 dollars a month is inexpensive then that's great but I don't especially when you don't know if you are going to cover that cost. On the plus side some(or maybe even most) of them offer free membership for the first month.

$37 for what? What memberships are you referring to? If you do the work of actually getting your state resale certificate and starting real business, you can partner with legitimate manufacturers and distributors that charge no fees. If you're being charged, you're doing it wrong.

Don't get me wrong some suppliers may charge a nominal fee of $3-5 per shipment, but even that isn't the norm. Most manufacturers charge no fees other than standard shipping rates.

Although this sits outside the traditional idea of dropshipping what you could try is sourcing low cost products from the likes of eBay, alibaba or even Etsy. Once you've found products you want to sell setup a shopify store and sell those products. When someone orders you simply go on and place the order on eBay, Alibaba etc and type in your customer's delivery address so that they ship the product to the right place. This may be more time consuming in the long term but it makes it easy to get started.

The lowest rate I've seen for dropshipping is 37 dollars per month(to be a member). Anything less than that probably isn't worth it anyway. I'm sure dropshipping is a good way to go once you have your business up and running but not when your first starting out. If you are just starting out it's probably best to just start selling stuff you have lying around the house.

Anyway, I've looked into this but for me personally it's just too risky. There's no guarantee you will sell enough to do it full time or that you will even sell anything at all. Good luck to those who want to try it though.

Member of what? You don't appear to be clear in what you're talking about. Avoid memberships and do your own product sourcing.

You should learn from your experience. Also you need to know what kind of business it is. So that you can find how to do and what to do.

Start with the best shopping cart/platform which is Woocommerce, then get a dropship supplier, and go from there.

If you dropship, you need a way to make sure that your website adjusts for your suppliers current quantities and prices.

    Hey Alan,

You're asking a great question. I was asking myself the same question before I found out my current dropshipper. I must add, I went through several dropshippers before I came across my current drop shipping supplier.

First things first.. ..you want to make sure you have a website. Preferrable with Shopify since Shopify has a very user-friendly platform with many plugins. Second, you want to visit Clothing Dropshippers - Automated Inventory Management and get started with their dropshipping program.

They have an awesome way of doing fashion dropshipping. They built a software, robot, app, whatever you wanna call it.. ..that connects directly to your website and updates your inventory for you. Check out their page to see what I mean. They're awesome with great support too! Hope this helps you my friend.

I recommend 365dropship.com. I have magneto and shopify shop now and targeting Europe customer. They don't charge you integrating with different platform and great support(don't need to wait for 24hrs to respond). there's also doba and a lot more but they focus on US & canada. Just be careful with scam dropshipper.
