Does anyone have any experience exporting to Japan?

I used to sell on eBay many moons ago and found success selling to Japan. Sometimes the shipping was more than the item itself! Now I would like to sell directly to Japanese wholesalers without the use of eBay, but I have no idea where to start.

Do they have their own versions of sites like Aliexpress? I live in the U.S.

Thanks in advance.

    Hi,

Amazon FBA is a great way into the Japanese market for these reasons. There are a few areas where 3rd party support is needed and at eBiz Japan we provide this.

Of course it depends on the product category. e.g. cosmetics, electronics, foods more complex for a variety of reasons.

You may want to search this forum by posts from ImportExpoert. He is quite knowledgeable on the topic of exporting as well as importing.

I do not think FBA would be suitable for what you are looking to do which is to "sell directly to Japanese wholesalers". Amazon is not set up for selling wholesale, it is a retail marketplace.

Thanks for the tip. I will check out importexport's post. Unfortunately Amazon won't work for the products I want to sell. I'm looking to sell in bulk to business owners directly.

Sounds like you need freight forwarding service more than individual fulfillment.

I will likely ditch this idea for now as I cannot locate the information I need.

I was hoping to get on a marketplace but none of them will except U.S. sellers. A Japanese bank account is required for most sites. Next, I tried to locate a Japanese buyer's agent with accounts on sites like Yahoo Auctions Japan but was unable to find a reliable one.

What I really wanted was a online directory where Japanese business owners go to look for business contacts, sort of like a Japanese version of Alibaba.
