Your business is built around the trust your customer puts on your brand. To maintain this important treasure, one has to incorporate many important elements in his/her e-commerce business to move ahead of your competitors. In this thread , I will briefly list some basics to achieve that in limited amount of time:

Customer Reviews

It's always uplifting for a new customer to find out how his/her product of interest behaves when used by different people. As a matter of fact , some buyers only purchase your product after thoroughly going through customer's feedback . Therefore, incorporate this thing in your e-commerce business.

Make your payment section secure:

New buyers are always hesitant to put their credit card information on a site which has limited exposure among the competitors. The best way to tackle that problem is to use Verisign seal powered by Norton to give your customers a level of trust that their transactions are completely safe.

Free shipping and returns:

Offering this incentive spreads the impression that you're not all about the money but as a matter of fact you care about your customer's need 24/7.

Live chat:

Direct conversations always clear up any sort of misconceptions therefore offering this feature can lift up your brand legacy among many social circles. For beginners, it's kind of hectic to commit to this responsibility therefore my suggestion is to generate enough revenues so that you're able to hire a separate person for this particular role.

Cheers

James

You pointed out the basics right, yup. But don't forget the most important part: REAL social proof.

I see so many stores which are flooded with badgets, popups, chats, promises of quality and safety etc. etc. etc. What your customer will REALLY value is if there is a crowd who is already buying happily. This can be achieved by putting in an influencer or by creating a nice social media audience.

PS: Customers usually sense the difference of a botted traffic 10k audience and a real engaging one.

Absolutely, I agree 100%. Building up your brand legacy through social media platforms is one of the best ways to do it. Through this you can connect with range of customers belonging to different demographics and can get feedback right away.

I tend to disagree that a live chat service is necessary for an ecommerce shop. Especially one that is branded well. Live chats seem to be more popular amongst service websites in my experience. That said, responsive customer service is a must for any business. I've seen various studies that have shown that prominently listing a 1-800 number increased sales, however not many people actually call. I think it's just one of those things that helps put people at ease and let's them know you're reputable and there if they need you.

As mentioned above, social proof is everything these days. That goes hand in hand with word of mouth (and the Internet) marketing these days... You can get by with a lot of other stuff if people are talking about your product to their friends.

Absolutely. If you have your spread out at different locations around the globe then incorporating this factor can really bump up the sales magnitude

Great post, live support is one of the most effective methods to build trust and increase sales. Most customers will have questions about a product before they purchase and live support helps you instantly answer any questions and close the sale.

Other than that it helps to cut down all that hassle one has to go through by emailing the seller in case of product fault. You can get the solution right away
