Ecommerce, self taught? Or get a mentor?

Hey guys I've started a few dropshipping sites on shopify, after months of struggle trial and error I at least finally started to get some sales.

If you are successful at dropshipping, would you say the whole thing is pretty much going to be self taught with trial error and money?
Or is there any education you would recommend that can actually help guide you through the process?

The main education I see online is guys selling information which I personally don't trust at the moment and doubt it actually led a decent amount of people to be actually successful.

Any tips appreciated!

    Most people selling advice are scammers...those who can't do, teach. I am too busy filling orders to try an sell consultation.
    It is not an easy gig though, be warned, try and find some books on online marketing. Real books, not ebooks.

        I used the dummy books , not sure of the exact titles but : dummies guide to online marketing; dummies guide to adwords ; dummies guide to social networking ; dummies guide to SEO etc. They give you a great foundation towards any online endeavors. There are very few things I have learned online after reading those. I am sure they are not the BEST books, but they are a reliable franchise of very good books.

        Your going to want to learn "copy" also, this is something I have not learned yet and need to, there is a common book that is recommended usually for this, but I can't remember the name... something I need to get myself. There is a dummies guide to writing copy I will probably get.

        I have also learned a bit through going to tech meetups hosted by some of the larger corporations, these are generally helpful because there is a good group of experienced people in the room and it gets quite social and loose as the beer starts flowing.

        I have "AHA" moments a couple for times a year though that nothing prepared me for, some of them are very important... I still feel I am missing something, with a closing ratio for my website as high as it is, I should be making a lot more money than I am... I know I am and probably always will be missing something.

    Well, since I regularly "teach" and help people myself it may sound a bit like self advertising but here is the thing:

    When I started with eCommerce 3 years ago (with Shopify around 1.5) there wasn't even close the amount of information that is out there now. To be honest I maybe watched 5 videos in total regarding Shopify, E-Commerce etc. Now the average store owner easily watches 100 before getting started.

    You don't need a mentor, all resources are out there already. Yet 95% of all people fail. Not because they are not "educated" enough, probably a lot of them know more about some useless details than I do. But based on experience in working with hundreds of store owners and having run ~10 stores myself (+ selling on Amazon and eBay, both dropshipping and stock), I've seen a thing or two.

    So you have to decide by yourself. You don't need a mentor per se, maybe this video I uploaded some months ago will help you though, just as it has helped a few thousands others in getting a realistic understanding of the industry. Good luck!

    We have some people who only need our free course who end up making money dropshipping. We have others who need the tools in our Pro membership course and still others who take advantage of the private coaching programs we offer.

    Everybody is different. I'd start with the free, see if that works and scale up until you have the level you need, personally, to succeed.

    The way using which you learned to get result is the best. That is doing trial and error. By doing this you must have known some unknown tips which are never shared elsewhere. That is the beauty of trail and error method.

    I admit, it require it takes time get success with this method. However if you have the patience, you will have enormous knowledge to share.

    Trial and Error mostly. And yea you gonna end up spending a ton of money. But hey its worth it to learn valuable information. Youtube is also a big help when you need to learn about Shopify, you'd be surprised at how many tutorials there are!

      I agree. There are tons of information for free. Trial and error will be present in business anyway. Hiring a mentor, the right one, can work but you and your business should be ready for it.

    As for me, I like using the help of Professional mentoring. It is a great way to learn different aspects of marketing with the help of a specialist who knows how to do it correctly. And I can recommend you to go this way too, you will not regret it at all
