I am wanting to launch an affiliate program and am quickly seeing that Shopify is not the answer.
All the top affiliate advertiser websites I come across seem to have a very similar look & feel.

Is there a platform or something along those lines that is recommended to use?

Most decent sties have custom build solutions, especially for volume. We used Magento but had some very good tech that adjusted the platform to auto load 250,000 products from affiliate network files, the problem with affiliate marketing is the margins are so low you need pure efficiency. Using any tools, including Magento, will not be efficient enough, hence why the tech we used replaced parts of the Magento system, we could download themes from Themefore and launch, it still takes one month to load one million products though and that's will very efficient hosting.

The issue you will have is that most of those types of sites, their lowest knowledge will be higher than what you can understand, which is why everyone builds from nothing because they have to go through the learning curve of how it works, likely in years. We're winding everything down these next couple of months and moving to another industry, it wastes too much of our time explaining why the lowest efficiency of the tech we use is beyond startups highest level of experience. Shopify is a business tool, it's so inefficient it's useless for affiliate, even Magento without being stripped down is more effort than the return, and that's the best you'll be able to get without building it yourself.

You do not need an eCommerce platform to run an affiliate site. WordPress will work just fine.

Ecommerce platforms are needed when you will be collecting money on your website. You don't do that with affiliate links.

Is your affiliate programme for physical goods? can't see why you would choose Shopify for digital products.

Again, folks, there is absolutely no need for an eCommerce platform for an affiliate store, Use WordPress with WooCommerce if you want it to look like an eCommerce store and connect the Add to Cart buttons with the affiliate links.

Do you even know what an affiliate site is?

Why do you need order management tools with an affiliate site? You are not fulfilling orders. You are not dealing with customers. You are simply placing links to another site that people will buy from.
