Payment methods on Shopify won't allow UK business to receive payments in USD.

I am launching a store on shopify and I am based in the UK. My market is in the USA, so I would need to be collecting payments in USD.

This is impossible through Stripe. Although they allow the price to be displayed in USD, they show GBP at the checkout. The only option is Paypal, which is alot less professional and may cost be conversions.

Has anyone overcame this hurdle?

I live in London, and I bought a USA based Shopify store last year off Flippa. (Terrible decision by the way, I thought a site promoted with paid Facebook Ads would be like buying a site with profitable Google PPC Campaigns setup and running. I didn't know that 6 months earlier it was the latest craze and several Online Courses advising to have a Generic Store and target Facebook Interests). Anyway, I can't remember exactly why it wasn't a problem, just that I searched for a solution for ages and it turned out to not be a problem. Stripe either convert it after the Customers paid, when they give you your weekly payment, or it just didn't show up enough to bother the Customers. PayPal don't convert it at all, they just say you've got xxx amount GBP and XXXX in USD, which I often spent on US services like USAMail1.com for a US Mailing Address and a US Phone Number, and the Shopify Apps I wanted. A lot of orders I had came from PayPal, personally I'd rather Pay by PayPal than give my Card Details to a site I don't know, but it definitely helps to have more than 1 option.

FYI - In the end I made a loss on the Venture, I'm not a Facebook User so I didn't enjoy using Facebook at all, and I thought I could use my skills and experience as an eBay seller to find untapped markets, but I couldn't figure out how much competition there was on Facebook for the products I wanted to sell. Also the random selection of product categories in my Store made it difficult to promote outside of Facebook, or build a single audience to retarget with new products.

I am sorry to hear your story, but what already is done than is done.
Just to make sure Shopify is good but not professional solution. On some solutions payment profiles can be managed and assigned to particular country i.e. GBP for UK, $ for USA or RON for Romania...
Uoi can use Paypal for US or PayU for Romania, FirstData for UK in example.

Yeah I thought it was built on Wordpress and planned to add a lad of plugins and features to promote it in several different ways. Shopify has limited Apps and you pay for any extra feature, like setting different payment amounts for different items!

    Hey kevd10,
Yes PayPal is the best option for your online store, because mostly buyers feel some hesitation when doing online shopping, if the store does not have paypal payment option.
