Hello,

I'm interested in setting up an eCommerce store to sell some products that I will dropship to customers.

I've been hearing about Shopify and Woo Commerce and would like to know the pros/cons and what is best for this purpose?

If Shopify is the best option, could I start out with "Shopify Lite"? Seems to be cheaper.

Thanks

I don't have much idea about Shopify but I heard its a good website for online selling stuff. I prefer to sell mine product on eBay or Amazon.

Neither Shopify nor Woocommerce are able to gives you all the modules from solo supplier. Building up your business on no solo solution provider gives you freedom of choice but it has its cons too. As long as you are aware of that and calculate that in your business plan and have backup solution all is under control.

Shopify all the way. It is simply the best platform for e-commerce.

Don't go with the lite plan, start with the one at $29 per month.

Procent shopify! Woocommerce will give you now and then some bad feelings. And its also slower in general.

I would never doubt and pick shopify!

There's no best shopping cart. It all depends on your needs, budget and scalability options. you can shop around, there are many shopping carts that you can choose.
Shopify is easier to handle. It is a hosted/managed shopping cart so you have to deal with a lot less technical stuff. Woocommerce is free. I'd like to recommend you an article to help you of ChinaDivision which provide worldwide order fulfillment service from China.

I have always used WooCommerce myself, it's much more flexible and customizable.
With Wordpress you are pretty much in charge of everything. And if you have custom needs to fulfill, it's the best choice.

But if you're looking to get started quick, and all you need is a simple/basic implementation then save yourself the hustle and go with Shopify.

In this article you will find information about these two.
It is pretty hard to define a clear cut winner. As both platforms are going nose to nose in the matters of functionality, features, support and design.

I think Woocommerce is better than Shopify because

-You want to be in full control of your eCommerce store.

You want to have access to thousands of site designs and thousands of plugins that will enable you to extend the functionality of your store.

-You don't mind spending a couple of hours setting things up, and you're not afraid to handle the tasks required on your own (or you've hired someone to do this for you).

-You have only minimal budget to start with, and you want to do everything on your own.

Most drop shippers usually have several stores. Is shopify really that good that people are setting up 5-10 stores at $29 each ?

If you wanted to list hundreds products on the site and wanted to have automatic order from AliExpress, you can choose Shopify. They have good modules to import & synch product with AliExpress. By having this features the monthly charge you should to pay is around $40.

If you wanted to list dozens products on the site and make manual order between your site and vendor, you can choose WooCommerce. I use WooCommerce and for initial setup I just spent around $280 for hosting, domain, themes, and plugins. One thing I'm a bit difficulty of WooCommerce is automatic products import & synch with AliExpress. The rest, both have almost similar features.

Total eCommerce I've spent between Shopify & WooCommerce yearly:

    => Shopify - $368
=> WooCommerce - $150 for yearly domain & hosting, then $130 for initial setup

What you mean with administrator modules?
Do you need complex administrator modules in WooCommerce?

Oh wow, that's a bit expensive domain and hosting...i mean if you're only running one website on it...

I find hosts for $15 a year...but with 20GB file storage and 1TB bandwidth...though it's actually more than enough unless one has uber high res images and big file sizes...

but then again if one is earning more than the costs why not lol...

      - my opinions

I always prefer Woocommerce because it is user friendly. You can modify it easily. You can add/remove product by yourself when you want. Thanks

I've used both shopify and woocommerce in opening some online stores that I've closed down because they're not selling

doesn't matter which sales platform you use...what matters is how much sales you rake in...

I will recommend shopify, reason is very simple because it save more time on uploading.

I have tried both, and by paying a low monthly fee you save a lot trouble and there have this add on call oberlo which make your uploading like a breeze. Super easy one click upload and save time. Is worth investing as compare with woocommerce which you will spend hell lot of time STRUGGLING to upload which I went through before.

Between those two choices, the clear winner is Shopify. With Shopify, it's easier to build a site, you won't have to deal with security updates and plugins constantly getting broken like they do with WordPress and there is a plugin to do almost everything you'll ever need to do for eCommerce.

Yes since they have a title as big company, of course to make everything easily in initial setup Shopify always better than WooCommerce

Shopify is the third party platform to develop eCommerce websites and Woo Commerce is a plugin used in Wordpress to develop eCommerce website. In Shopify all the features are already in-built so you do not have to do any alterations. You can simply put your products and sell. But, this is the disadvantage of Shopify. You cannot customize the features. Hence, i would suggest you to go for Wordpress.

Both are ok for your purpose, but I've chosen Woo. Why? Because I became a full owner of my webstore. No restrictions and no rules. I can sell whatever I want. I ordered ready custom store (at alidropship.com) and installed their plugin, so now my processes are utomated and it is really helpful.

Dropshipping on webstore, build on woocommerce using AliDropship plugin seems cheaper (only one-time payment).

  • Because Woocommerce is part of the Wordpress platform it's more customizable with lots of 3rd party plugin options. You can also host your site on a server of your choice.

    Shopify has better support.

  • Shopify is the best and most preferable way for creating an e-commerce store. Shopify have number of advanced features and much secure, that's why it is more popular between ecommerce sellers. I think shopify is best for ecommerce. WordPress is best for bloggers.

I prefer woocommerce. Dropshipping with it is much cheaper. The lack of features I compensate with AliDropship plugin (searching for items on AliExpress and importing them to my woo store.

I would vote for WooCommerce, especially with AliDropship plugin if you going to dropship from aliexpress. It's much cheaper, gives you more control and freedom.

Lots of information here, hard to see why one is better than the other, would it make any sense if I decided to give both a try simultaneously? That way I could see for myself before deciding which works best for me?
