Warning customers about import taxes - how far would you go?

Hi all,

With ecommerce website, I ship products from either the USA or from Europe to customers wherever they are.

I have a statement in the shopping cart process (when they enter their address, and then again where they enter their payment) and also in the terms and conditions page that says something like customers are responsible for import taxes, duties etc.

If someone order from the US for example, and something will be shipped from outside the US, they may have to pay 1-2 types of taxes for importing, if it is above the threshold, which in some cases it is.

So would you let the customer know by email in case they did not read? Will this reduce returns or refusals to accept parcels?

Or should we not even email anything as it is already in the terms?

Any insights or opinions are welcome!

I'd leave it just the way you have it and nothing else. Only if you see that it has become a major problem should you consider further email explanation.
