Hi ,
Can anyone recommend a free or paid guide on how to source products and how to effectively communicate with dropshippers ?

Also how can I source products and find manufacturers that I can trust not to include their own marketing materials in the shipment?

I have found two courses but they dont go into detail on how to deal with dropshippers.l

Thanks

You can try Aliexpress. Send message to them ask them whether they do dropshipping. If yes, you can play safe by order and send it to yourself first before start selling.

There are tons of resources online and most of them ranting same things and doesn't offer enough of valuable information. They just want to sell their courses or eBooks and you end up with same basic information.

I'd say start your sourcing process and learn it the hard way for the deepest understanding. I believe you must have all the basic know-how and just hesitating to start the sourcing. Go to AliExpress, Alibaba or GlobalSources and find the suppliers of your products talk to them learn from their behavior.

Here are some points to keep in mind before placing your first order:

    1. Find the Right Supplier

You need to figure out if you're dealing with a trading company or manufacturing company in order to negotiate the best deal for you.

    2. Negotiate With Your Supplier

While negotiating with the supplier, keep in mind there are more things to negotiate besides the price of the product such as quality, payment terms, delivery time, etc.

    3. Quality Control

Keeping a check on the quality of products is essential for online sellers. You can protect yourself from a varying number of problems by making a written agreement.

I would use ICDF to communicate with drop shippers- this way you can check inventory. This way you can eliminate possibility of overselling. Picking up your solution is not an easy task.

If you don't mind watching a webinar that is over an hour long, you can see our method for contacting real suppliers .

That is normally content we share with our Pro members but in this case, it is also on our YouTube channel.

PLEASE NOTE: Due to a foulup that was all my fault, the screen is blank for about the first 5 minutes. We catch up real quick with the slides and show what you were supposed to see, though.

That is not a blog post, it is the website for a Chinese sourcing company. There are thousands of individuals and small companies in China offering their services as sourcing agents, but how do you know who to trust?

Yes there are many scammers on Alibaba, and for years I have been teaching how to avoid them, and how to safely source in China. I don't charge a commission on every order like sourcing agents do.

Scams can cost you a lot of money. Here's what one of my book users wrote to me:
      "Hi Walter,
You literally saved me $3000 USD. Thank you so much for taking the time to look into it.

      I really, really, appreciate it.

      Best regards,
Moh" (Original available for inspection by FTC)

I'm from China, some of my friends do dropshiping for their foreign customers. There is nobody else more competent than native language speaker who can source products that others can never make it.
How to find them? View small onliner business such as dhgate and ask the sellers you are interested directly that if they do dropshipping. Most of them would agree, the problem is just how to build mutual trust.

    Hi Pat,
I'd like to assist but I don't know if it's prohibited in the forum.Besides, the other guys has told you how to find these dropshippers with more details.

So,I'd rather speak out antoher tip. People always don't know the best website in other countries,I read the posts in this thread and found they suggest to source on Aliexpress. Is the Aliexpress the best website in china? Absolutely no,actually most of the sellers of Aliexpress-- they source prodcuts on 1688 dot com. However, the 1688 would block visitors from other countries,or it would redirct you to aliexpress and alibaba dot com. Morever, this web display only Chinese. So what to do?

First, you need VPN or other tools to visit 1688, the google chrome would translate the web into english, then use google translate to transform your niche phrase into chinese and search them in 1688. At last, you will be surprised that so many items appear on your screen.

I'm sure you will find the best item, ummm well,at least you know the average price of these items. You will be more confident to discuss the price with your dropshippers, right ?

Sorry, you are mistaken. 1688 is open to Western Browsers, but the Google translation is totally unusable for non-Chinese speakers. In fact it only does a a very partial translation.

The results are similar to the Google translation you get on TaoBao. It can be quite hilarious.

Thanks Walter. If westerners wanted to purchase from 1688 would you recommend using an agent? If so, any decent ones out there?

I don't import any more, but I never went through agents to source products.

The big problem is the question of integrity. Half the population of China (slight exaggeration,) will act as a buying agent for you, but how do you know if they really have your interests at heart or their own?

Are the agents getting commissions from the seller as well as from you the buyer. Does the agent buy the product and resell to you at a nice profit? If the agent tells the buyer that he has found the best deal, is the seller a relative?

All of these can cost you big time. You would be far better off learning how to safely source for yourself. See my post #8 above.

I began importing in 1987, and have visited China countless times. I know how the system works.
