Finding an Idea

There are tons of ways to find niche ideas. Here are a few:

- Go to a REAL magazine stand and thumb through the magazines. All magazines are built around niches and we have found a lot of products we never knew existed by flipping through the pages.

- Go to Shopzilla.com or BizRate .com, scroll to the bottom and click on their "top products/searches" links. That should provide you with a lot of ideas.

- Take a look at the Google Shopping "Product Taxonomy" list for ideas - https://www.google.com/basepages/pro...nomy.en-US.txt

- The best things to sell are things that you can only buy in a wide variety online (people will just drive down the street and buy things, otherwise). Keep your eyes open. When you are driving, watching a movie or the TV, look at the things they are using, the things in the background. If the question "where in the world do you buy that?" comes into your head, it might be a great niche idea.

- When you are talking to people about their work or the things they like to do when they are not at work, ask what products they use. Ask whether they can buy those things locally or do they get them online? (I recently hired a contractor to do a variety of things around the house and discovered quite a few new niche ideas by asking him about the products and tools he was using and where he bought them - a LOT of them were things you can only buy online.)

- Almost any type of general niche has some sort of convention associated with it. Visit convention center websites to find out about all of the different conventions there are. Most conventions have their own website where they list who the exhibitors are. Visit those individual companies' websites to see all of the products they sell. Not only will that open your eyes to some cool, new things, but you might also be able to set up a supplier account with them. And, of course, if you live near a convention center, go to those public conventions and see all of the cool things that companies are promoting. Get their contact details for a possible supplier source.
