dropship and supplier question

Hi,

I was wondering something about dropshipping. Before suppliers agree to dropship their products with you, do they first want to make sure that your website is fully search engine optimized and ready to go? Do they first require that you have a decent amount of traffic coming to your website?

Or, will suppliers agree to dropship with you and meanwhile you can work on the internet marketing and search engine optimization aspects of your website for as long as it takes before you make even a sale?

Thanks.

That is at the discretion of the supplier you want to use. Every supplier will have their own policy's and requirements for people who want to sell their products, your best bet would be to contact the supplier directly and find out what their requirements are. In my experience, most of the companies will allow you to sign up for a drop ship program as long as you have a legitimate business Tax ID number.

Do you know how to ask the supplier whether they do dropshipping? Can you just ask them directly or is there a more subtle way to do it?

Are most suppliers open to the idea of dropshipping too?

Usually if they offer a drop ship program they will have some information listed about it on their website. Check the FAQ's or the links on the footer of their website for some information.

There are also some directories that will give you a list of known suppliers.

The ones I can think of off the top of my head that I've used in the past are

        - SaleHoo
        - WorldWide Brands

If you are paying a membership fee, they are not going to care about all that in general.

If there is no fee, you usually sign some type of agreement, a 1-page reseller agreement that lists the rates you get per the amount sold, increasing in tiers. So they are not going to care about what you are asking, either. Your sales price will be based upon your volume.

    Huron,

When I was contacting suppliers I was usually asked what my website's URL so they could go and look at it.

However, I wouldn't let having no website deter you from contacting potential suppliers.

However, you will definitely need an incoporated company and EIN befor eany legitimate supplier will talk to you or provide you with their wholesale price list.

If you don't have a website, when you can still call a potential supplier, exlplain that you are 'starting' a business that will be selling goods in 'their niche' and you would like to know if they offer retailers a drop ship service.

wholesale suppliers will work with you as long as you have a sales tax id/sales tax authorization, some suppliers will ask if you have a website, but it usually satisfies them if they can see something is definitely in the works. try bluehost, com -> simplescripts for a one click free shopping cart install.

dropship memberships suck, they just take your money and sell you products at high prices.

deal with real wholesale drop ship suppliers, say for electronics: ie. dbl distributing, petra, and d and h distributing.

      for bodybuilding supplements: europasports,com

if you visit these suppliers you will start to understand what a real supplier is like.

they provide product data feeds which are essential.

Initially I will sell on amazon and then use the profits from that to fund the development of a website (shopping cart software, custom wordpress template, seo, etc.)

Most suppliers don't require a website.
