High value domain as e-commerce web site or funnel site.

I own several great high value domain names such as:
racingseats dot com
verticallambodoors dot com
sprintbooster2 dot com

I have developed each of these web sites.

However, I question whether the best way to profit will be to spread my efforts across each of these multiple domains, or to group what I'm selling into broad categories with a single site, and use the domains in another way. For example, the above domains can be classified as web sites for automotive performance parts. So let's say I focused my efforts on building a really great ecommerce site for drautomotive dot com (another domain I own).

How then should I utilize the other domains to best extract their value. I can think of the following options:

1) Leave the domains as they are, and have them be stand-alone e-commerce sites
2) Have the domain names redirect to a landing page for the particular category of product within my performance web site
3) Have the domain names as info sites / blogs that then link back to the landing page for a particular category of product within my performance web site

I am thinking in terms of SEO and whether I'd be wasting great domains such as racingseats dot com by merely making it a blog. Also, I don't know how Google would score be if I redirected racingseats dot com to a landing page at drautomotive dot com.

I would appreciate any help on this matter as it is architecturally an important decision for my efforts.

    Personally, I would go with #1.
    Keep it diversified so if one drops, they all do not drop.
    As for Google and what they like or don't like, I would forget them and concentrate on other traffic methods. Of course keep up on SEO but don't make it the mainstay of your traffic development. I believe if a person concentrates on the other methods of traffic development, that Google rankings will naturally follow.

      Thank you for your thoughts, especially regarding the philosophy of building traffic in other ways, independent of google.

      With this in mind, each web sites requires a lot of administration and I feel that maintaining each web site on it's own means I will spread my efforts too thin. I guess my concern about his choice is not from an seo perspective but rather a general business philosophy to focus efforts. But what I want to do is confirm that the other methods can utilize these high value domains just as well.

    You could make drautomotive an authority site selling everything auto, then racingseats can be a niche ecommerce site specialising in racing and car seats. You could sell the same products on both or maybe have a small range of racing seats on drautomotive and a big range on racingseats.

    Regarding SEO, only do this once you are well and truly set up and have validated the store. That is, drive some traffic with PPC and comparison sites and make sure that it's actually converting and is profitable. SEO takes a bunch of time and money so you don't want to do this until you know it will be worth it.

    In terms of focus, you're right in identifying this as something that could screw things up. If you have trouble focusing on several things at once, just do one. Set it up, find suppliers, get marketing, document systems, make yourself redundent (outsourceing) and start the other one.

      OK, I like your thoughts on this. I guess whatever strategy I use, the first step is to focus on one site, then decide what to do with the next.
