So here is my "dilemma":

I have a handful of products ( furniture pieces) that I manufacture.

Furniture is a portable bar and variations

I bought portablebar dot net and paid close to $1k

I know all about EMD update and don't really feel that it is real, I still have plenty of EMD that rank...

Here comes my question:
if I setup the above domain as an ecommerce site ( pretty, flash, carts...) and NOT optimize for SEO, would it be a good idea to setup mybusinessname.com as an SEO site that would drive traffic to portablebar.net?

Here is what I am thinking ( and am open to criticism):
I would rather setup a crisp site that is just that, no seo. This way i can do flyers and emails, visitors won't see an seo site, they will only see a clean crisp site

Then setup the secondary site that I would go full swing SEO

Hope this makes sense, look forward to criticism.

Happy Turkey day!!!

I don't think you need the second site. Why would your visitors see an 'SEO site' when they visit your ecommerce site? If they can tell then you are probably doing it wrong. Also most of your buyers probably don't even know what SEO is.

Google is favouring more natural SEO so old techniques that visitors might notice like keyword stuffing doesn't really work anyway. If you fill your site with relevant content about your products, lots of images etc. then that is user friendly which is exactly what Google is looking for, so therefore it should be SEO friendly.

Another thing I forgot to mention is click through rate CTR. Why spend all your effort driving traffic to your 'SEO site' to have only a % click through to your money site? Of the people that get to your money site only a small % of those people will buy.

Lets do a quick number crunch.

    Scenario 1
    - 1000 visitors to second SEO site
    - 30% click through to money site
    - 3% conversion rate

    1000 * .3 = 300 click through
    300 * .03 = 9 orders

    Scenario 2
    - 1000 visitors to your money site
    - 3% conversion rate

    1000 * .03 = 30 orders
