China supplier only ships to US port. How to get to customers residence?

Hi guys,

I contacted a supplier in China and they ship all the way to the US port, but no further. I was wondering whom I should look for to deliver my product from the US port to the customer's residence?

The product is around the size of a fridge (it has a net weight of around 125 KG) so if anyone knows the approximate price to deliver this item that would be very helpful to determine the profitability of this niche.

Shipping using DHL from China to their US residence would not be an option due to the exorbitant costs.

Thanks in advance!

Any trucking company will be glad to help you. If you only have a couple pallets you are looking for LTL (Less Than Truckload) freight. Also, since you are importing from China you are also responsible for the ISF and you can file that right online but be sure it is in 24 hours before it arrives at the port.

I'm not a US citizen, do I still have to file the ISF?

Do you have any trucking company that you know does this or that you recommend?

Why not have DHL or FedEx pick the package up when it arrives in port?

I think the OP is looking for a smaller local logistics companies that would be able to deliver the goods on a considerable cheaper rates than both DHL and FedEx. The peceived high cost from those two companies would mar the pofitability of that niche in my own opinion.

Another option is to subscribe to one of those rented Us local addresses and then work an agreement with them to post your packages locally under your Company name.

I did that a few times in the past and it worked wonders

You will probably need somebody to clear the customs for you and this can get quite messy and expensive.

But it's just dropshipping and many people have said it's unlikely to have customs fees for the item i'm selling. A freight forwarder that I had contacted said there are no duties for my product.

Also, the logistics firms normally provide this service.

There are a lot of "logistics" companies near all major US ports. They will handle everything for you including customs clearance and domestic transpiration.

I used a company called Hellman Worldwide Logistics for many years and they broke down and shipped over 20 40' containers for me. I was in NY the entire time and they were in CA... I would highly recommend them.

I shall check them out. I'm dropshipping though so it won't be of that quantity...

There are lots of laws governing shipping items in and out of the U.S, even sellers in U.S especially people selling mobile phones, TV, laptop barely ship outside U.S and Canada not because they don't want to but because the law isn't favorable.

Sometimes there isn't much you can do about things like these than to sit and hope or move on to other stuff.

Assuming this item is the size of a fridge, and is able to be put on a pallet, aside from the shipping fees to the port, you are going to paying:

-$100 to $150 in freight forwarder 'adminstration' fees
    -$30 to $75 dock fee
-$100 to $200 customs broker fee, assuming you're not doing customs yourself
    -$200+ for onward delivery

Consider this all when determining if things are profitable for you or not. After that, simply speak to a freight forwarder in the city of the port and they should be able to arrange everything for you.
