Classified Ad using Wordpress

Hello, I am looking to install word press on my hosting account in order to build a classified ads site.

I was just wondering if anyone knows if this can be done without using external themes like classipress e.g

I am looking to have 2 main categories with 2 sub categories. Features will include Paypal as my payment merchant; free listings as well as paid listings; featured listings that you would be charged for doing so.

Notifications of new postings; notification of ad about to expire; option of adding your website, images and youtube videos.

If using a theme is the way to go then i would really appreciate suggestions of the best ones to use in terms of ease of use and reliability

    With respect I am not asking advice on how to generate traffic but how to create such a website with features I mentioned using wordpress is all.

    I have read about classipress, sitemail or whatever, I just wanted to know if its possible to build a site with wordpress without these themes or if i have to use any of the themes, which is the best

      I think what AuctionDebtEliminator was trying to ask was what makes you so special? 99% of people are going to just jump on CL for free classifieds ads by location.

      Its almost like you are asking what the best way to open your own search engine is. Are you ready to show Google how it's done?

      Maybe you do have a special kick for your website. Just try to understand that the Warriors on here like to keep you in the right direction all the time. Maybe it is in vein as you already know what it would take to compete with CL but we just like to say it anyway.

      I don't think you took offense but I wanted to add to the thread since I read your OP and immediately saw my initial thought portrayed one post down.

      Now on topic I would recommend you do some research into the format of a classified ads website. WP is more of a Blog and Articles type of web layout. What you need is a directory style. Something that a based off of a forum board type of web format. Where the user is brought to the entrance to a hive of directories, organizing locations, career paths, etc. Then the back end of your website would also be programmed to display user search criteria results. Gathering data from all of the directories. That's where MySQL comes in, and databases.

      Another user recommended programming from scratch. If you have the time and willpower to learn then go for it! Otherwise do some more research on what makes a website like CL do so well, and maybe look for "clone" scripts that help you better understand the whole shebang!

    My question wasn't about generating traffic.

    It was about generating sales. Something to consider even before creating a site.

    But in answer to your question, yes, you can use other themes. Try going to themeforest.com and perusing themes that will utilize the features you'll need.
