How do you add 500 products on to a store?

I recently did two stores that only added around 60 and 80 products each, both written so the descriptions were unique, but I am thinking about a starting store where the dropshipper has hundreds of products. Its going to be quite an expense if added manually.

  • Are you 'spinning' the listings? Or are they all unique items?

If they're all unique, then just use the Turbo Lister 2. (Assuming you're using eBay - that wasn't clear, though)

Just make sure you don't import directly from a dropshipper since you wouldn't set yourself apart from everyone else. You need to be unique - no matter your platform.

However, you can always 'Spin' listings to take your profitable items and really explode your dropshipping profits.

I really need to make a WSO on that.

Has the dropshipper used the same platform? If it was, you can just import data directly from your dropshipper

I am not using eBay, just online stores using the Woocommerce platform. I don't want to import the data as it will mean non-unique descriptions thus making it difficult to rank for your content.

None of the dropshipper sites I am partnering with are using Woocommerce. They have their own systems developed from ground up, I think.

When I imported the data, yes I had to end up going back in and make them unique. I use the Product CSV import suite to import the items to woocommerce. Does a great job. http://www.woothemes.com/products/pr...-import-suite/

I do end up customizing the csv files I get from my dropshipper but I dont know if anything can put them in perfectly. We still have to go back to each item and add in the meta tags, description, etc.

But to make it easier, I just download the csv file from the dropshipper, remove any columns that I am not using, add in any attributes if it is a variable product, that makes it easier as variable products (the products with different sizes, colors, etc.) take longer to customize. Woocommerce and that plugin (which is a huge time saver) does a great job of this.

Its not just the meta tags that needs to be unique, the actual product descriptions on the site itself need to be to rank on Google. If anything, Google will probably gradually discount the importance of meta keywords and description; in fact, meta keywords have already lost lot of their value because some people are trying to fool Google by having actual content that isn't unique and trying to get around that by manipulating the meta tags. I'd suggest you use original product descriptions.

Great points and thanks for the tips. When setting up a store with multiple products, it does take time but it is worth it in the end.

What I have done in the past is import the product information from the dropshipper into a separate database file. Then you can go and manipulate that database and change any fields you want. What you must remember is to keep the data you change in a seperate table and merge that data with the data you receive from the dropshipper based upon a key value such as the item SKU. The data you change will need to overwrite the dropshipper's data before creating an export file. Once you are happy with all the changes then create a cvs file from the database to import in to WooCommerce.

I do this is for two reasons.
    (1) If I have to import the items later then I don't have to worry about the descriptions coming straight from the dropshipper to my site. I just run it throught the database and the fields I changed previously overwrites the dropshipper's data.

    (2) I can always add additional fields the dropshipper doesn't give me to the import file so I can import these fields in bulk and not spend all day editing one product at a time.

    To Your Success,

    Michael
