I want to Sell My Domain and Online Business

Hi,

I have an online business which has made a profit every year since I started 3 years ago.

A growing family and other commitments have lead me to consider selling it but I have no idea how you sell an intangible object like an online business.

Any advice on how to do this would be really appreciated.

The Domain name and Business is Kids Board Games|Chess Sets|Fair Trade|Australia - Games From Everywhere.

We have stock to the value of $40,000 and it would be up to the buyer to decide if they wanted it.

The site has excellent SERP for its products, a good reputation and a solid network of Links, Social Media, and all the trimmings of a good e-commerce business.

So, how do I even begin to put this up for sale? Where? And How do I decide the Selling Price?

Selling online businesses could be tough, you need to know how to describe your business to the right buyers, what options to choose when advertising your listing, etc etc. It could get overwhelming.

The pricing will depend on how well your sales history is, and how well you rank in search engines. From a quick glance at your site I would estimate 16x monthly profit is what it would sell for.

I can help you sell it for a small fee. I have a pretty good reputation on Flippa and brokering websites is what I do.

Dance Party - Do you 16 times monthly "net profit" or 16 times monthly "revenue" or "turnover"?

16 times monthly profit is what I meant. Keep in mind that regularly, a moderately easy to replicate adsense site would usually go for 10x monthly profit and that seems to be the standard multiple. 10x monthly profit.

With e-commerce the multiples are a bit better because it is an actual business, and if it has been established for a while, the multiples are higher (given the fact that profits and traffic can be backed up with screenshots or bank statements).

Also, selling a business online has a lot to do with reputation of the seller, and how he markets the listing. A lot of trust needs to be established between bidders and the seller, after all, bidders are spending large amounts of cash over internet and no one wants to risk it with someone who is newly registered.

Same goes for sellers, you dont want to accept bids from everyone. There are a ton of flaky bidders and time wasters out there. Some are competitors trying to find out your business model, some are just show offs without money.

55% of the websites don't sell because of this.

Thanks Dance Party. I have been told the same thing by a number of other people: That e-commerce sites tend to do better because they have (potentially) a stronger online presence through good branding and reputation and they have a more solid structure.

We know for ourselves that our online network of micro blogs, social media and other online media which we are able to own as a business has made it more lucrative than an MFA, Amazon Dependant or nameless Drop Ship site - for the most part.

16x revenue is a bit of a pie in the sky there. I would be cautious specially with an offer to help. Good luck on your sale. Flippa will cost you about $50 bucks or so to list and a nominal success fee. Set your sights conservatively. be realistic about a possible sale, good sales do not happen overnight and you need to have all of your ducks in a row with facts to back every thing up to get a successful sale.

    Good Luck

Legitimate e-commerce websites with legitimate business models will sell for 16x. Marketing the auction properly, and having seller reputation on Flippa goes a long way.

What are you levels of yearly revenue?
    What is yearly net profit?
Can your business withstand low quality replica that inevitably flood the eBay marketplace?
Can people easily discern quality so as to maintain your margins?
How easy to get hold of and what costs are your stocks to purchase and maintain?

These are some of the crucial questions you will need to answer when listing the site on Flippa or elsewhere.

Thanks Anton. These are excellent questions and I will enjoy answering them - if for no one else's benefit but my own!

I saw a post in here about a new website called fiveasite dot com where you sell sites for $5 but I'm not sure about how successful it would be to sell on there. It's clever the way they've done it and based it on the fiverr model I guess. The only concern is lack of traffic to the site.

flippa is the best place to selling website. usually the selling price is 10x or 12x for the monthly revenue. Because flippa using bidding system, don't forget to set the reserve price.
