Hey Guys,

I have only just become a member however have had quite a bit of interest in an around this space for probably the last 5 years. I have 1 operation currently online and it has seen quite good success and has taught me a lot of what not to do...Something we all learn rather quickly no doubt.

After searching through google trends etc I found a tld available that had 300,000+ local searches (australia) and over 9,000,000 in the states. I have since come to realise the the search queries are mainly from young students wanting to play games...

I have almost completed the set up of the ecom site and will be starting on article/seo in the next couple of days.

What I'd most like to know seeing as the domain names are very similar (however offering different products..dropshipped) are/would you be happy to intercept the traffic from these kids? Would you suggest adsense/affiliate etc to physical products? Do you feel there are other things I could consider in order to generate revenue?

Ronnie.

ps I look forward to getting to know some of you and hope that I can help you as much as possible in my travels as well! Thank you in advance!

  • Traffic is one thing --- competition is the other.

That is your bigger concern. And that is your bigger obstacle in siphoning traffic -- no matter how 'close' the domain name is.

You need demand, yes, because you want people to 'want' to find you.

But you also need people to be 'able' to find you.

You also need your niche to be 'commercially intended' so that you result in sales

And you ultimately need to make a margin.

If you're only looking at demand - you're way short on your research.

    Ronaldio,
You have to think with buyer intent in mind. You have NO idea how many times I was looking to find something only to have a different website pop up, or I had mispelled it. I leave the site in like 10 seconds flat and go back to searching till I correct my mistake. You can steal all the traffic you want, but you have to convert. If they arent or werent looking for your product or products when they inadvertently land on your page- its bye, cya time. Adsense with drop shipping doesnt make much sense. Keep researching

      Thanks for the replies.

The site that has been built using the URL offers physical games as opposed to the online games the competitor offers to the same demographic. Lucky I have a list of that demo of just under 15k as well which has been built up over the past 18 months.

I absolutely agree, there is more research to be done. It was all kind of a knee jerk decision when I saw the traffic from the search query. I have a team in place that can take care of most of the content/seo creation etc and and have a conversion rate of .005% in mind for that total traffic witha avg $ profit of $10. As with most projections i am no doubt well off.

Am i coming at this from the wrong way?

Welcome to the Warrior Forum. Any product that you create or have created for you must be what people are looking for. When people start searching they are looking for a solution to a problem they or someone close to them has. Now if you can give them the right solution to their inquiry you are sure to have a good sale able product.
