How much will you invest to run a Dhgate or Aliexpress clone site?

Our team designed a b2b ecommerce system as Aliexpress or Dhgate.
So far, we have a Chinese client running it with over 700,000 products and over 2000 providers. Our script is design for mass data and high traffic.
It seems not easy to find an interested USA buyer who can afford our current quote to build a site with our script service.

Thinking to have our team to release a more economic version script. Before take action, would like to do a little survey. How much you can invest a b2b eCommerce business as dhgate if you are interested in having one?
Though it will be a economic version, I still hope the price can be more than 500 USD.

The survey would be very skewed in all directions, some people invest less then $300 to import from overseas, while others invest thousands.

Offer something different that Dhgate or Alibaba/Aliexpress don't offer.

Ask yourself this: Why would I go to a new website and leave AliExpress?

There should be some incentive (or something different).

    Hi RankSale,

$500 sounds pretty reasonable for b2b portal script if it is designed as well as Aliexpress or Dhgate. It really depends on the how well it is designed and the support you offer.

I would think the real obstacle to selling the script is that the market for such a script is relatively small. Not that people couldn't afford the script, that is not where most of the cost will be in setting up a b2b portal. It will take a huge investment in money, time, and effort to build up the suppliers and customers to make the portal viable.

It is kind of a "chicken or the egg" type of situation. What customer wants to signup for a portal with few or no suppliers? And, What suppliers will want to signup for a portal with little or no customers? There will likely be a significant investment in time and money before reaching breakeven.

    thanks for your replies here.
I give a vote that 500 USD is reasonable for a B2B script, but not for Aliexpress or Dhgate level clone script. And if we sell copies at 500 USD, may not be able to cover our investment due to the small market.
We are considering to support some of our current Chinese clients into English world instead of selling a cheap script. That may be more faster rather than to find a new client, I guess.

$500 for the script is reasonable, but competing with Aliexpress or Dhgate is way too expensive

We give up the idea for developing a cheap b2b script as aliexpress or dhgate.
Thanks for all the inquiries from this thread.

It really depends on the features. You need to give people a reason to buy it... Show them what it can do.
